In memory of

Konstantinos (Gus) Psihopedas

May 10, 1936 -  December 21, 2022

With great sadness, the family of Konstantinos (Gus) Psihopedas announces his passing on December 21, 2022, at the age of 86, after a hard-fought battle with illness.

Beloved husband to Vasiliki ‘Bessie’ (nee Kapakos). Father to Jim Psihopedas, Maria Psihopedas, and Aristithis (Helen) Psihopedas. Much loved brother to John (Jenny) Psihopedas and Eleni (John) Diamantouros. Loving grandfather to Victoria.

Predeceased by his brothers George, Tassos, Nikolaos, Peter, and Aristidis; and by his beloved granddaughter Katerina.

Much loved brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many, he will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched with his gentle humour, good naturedness and compassion.

Born in Katsarou, Greece (in the region of Sparta) on May 10, 1936, to parents Dimitrios and Maria, Gus grew up as one of seven brothers, with one sister. He left Greece as a young adult and arrived in Canada, in January of 1957, to start a new life.

Gus married Bessie in Toronto, on January 31, 1959, where they jointly embarked on a new chapter of their lives with shared dreams and aspirations. Together, they worked tirelessly over the years, establishing a home, raising a family, and contributing to the community around them.

Hard-working to the end, Gus epitomized a strong work ethic — well past his formal retirement from Canadian Pacific Railway (CP Rail) as a foreman, after 45 years of service. Among his talents, he was also known as an exceptional cook. He loved the people in his life, and valued time spent with them, through whatever activities or events that brought them together.

Gus was a good man, who exuded warmth, kindness and humility; a man whose strength in the face of life’s hardships manifested in gentleness and sensitivity of spirit, while also embracing life’s joys with a lightheartedness and sense of humour. He expressed his love openly, as well as his generosity and compassion, whether through word or through deed.

He will be remembered, always, for the example that he set, and for the love he made us feel.
