In memory of

Gus Petkopoulos

December 25, 1950 -  August 30, 2024

It is with great sadness that the Petkopoulos family announces the sudden, and unexpected, passing of Gus Petkopoulos on Friday, August 30th, 2024, at the age of 73. He passed away in a place he loved and enjoyed, spending his summers at the cottage at Balm Beach. Proud and loving husband of Mary Petkopoulos (nee Tirkalas) of 49 years, loving father of Marcus (Janelle) and Erin (Michael), cherished Dedo of Brendan, Amelia, Charlotte, and Trevor. Brother to George and Alexandra. He will be greatly missed by many, including his mother-in-law (Helen), sisters-in-law (Claire, Susan, and Diana), nieces (Danielle, Lyndsay, and Stephanie), nephews (Anthony, Matthew, and Jonathan), relatives, and friends. He was a proud Macedonian, but loved Canada as it gave him and his family a better life. Coming over in 1967 with his family on a two-week journey over the Atlantic Ocean on a boat, he never looked back as he called Canada ‘home’ for 57 years.

Family and friends will meet at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre (160 Beecroft Rd, Toronto, Ontario) for visitation on Thursday September 5th (2 - 4pm & 6 - 8pm), followed by a funeral service on Friday September 6th, 2024 (10:30am). In memory of Gus, donations to the Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, ON or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

When something like this happens, it leaves everyone figuring out how to pick up the pieces. There are no words, only love and support during this sorrowful time. You’re dealing with the shock of the news and the pain of the loss—that’s a lot. Cry as much as you need. Nothing about this is easy, and it just hurts. We are so sorry, my friend. Please don't hesitate to rely on our friendship as a source of comfort and strength. May your precious memories bring you comfort. May God rest his soul and his memory eternal.
