In memory of

Grace Sui King Li

June 19, 1948 -  November 30, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Grace Sui King Li on November 30th, 2023 at the age of 75.

Grace Sui King Li was born on June 19, 1948 in Hong Kong, China. She passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, surrounded by family.

Grace was a beloved wife to Wilson Lam, a devoted mother to her children Antonia Lam and Eunice Lam (Jason Kraus) and doting grandmother to her grandchildren Ryu Kraus and Hikari Kraus. She was also a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews Marie Loh (Oswald Au), Bernard Loh (Cindy Chan), Colin Li (Diane Liu), and Gordon Li (Angela Chan). She was a proud great-aunt to her many grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

Grace was predeceased by her father Kwong Hoi Lee; mother Pui Ying Lee; sisters Christine Loh (Berchmans Loh) and Wing Hin Lee, and brother Joseph Li (surviving spouse Ivy Li). Grace always had very fond memories of her predeceased nanny they affectionately called ‘Sam Je’ in Hong Kong, who helped raise her and finance her university education.

With great determination to carve a life of her own, Grace arrived in Vancouver, BC, Canada on August 28, 1968 where she worked to raise funds to support her university education before relocating to Toronto.

Grace completed her Undergraduate Studies and Masters Degree in Food Science at the University of Toronto (Class of 1973) and married Wilson in 1974. They had two lovely daughters, Antonia and Eunice: 1983; 1985 respectively and raised them in Toronto. In raising her children while working full time, Grace was devoted to developing their interests and skills, organizing various extracurricular activities and managing the home finances.

As an avid traveler, she travelled with Wilson to almost 70 countries, taking every opportunity to widen her knowledge of the world, history, cultures, food and fashion. Grace had a deep connection and love of Canada. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of her arrival in Canada, she and Wilson went on a trip to the Canadian Arctic to explore nature, meet people and experience culture.

Grace possessed a great sense of humour and enjoyed socializing with friends and relatives with her easy smile and warm hospitality. Grace was a great host and took pride in making elaborate dinners for family birthdays and holidays.

The passing of Grace is an unbearable loss to her family, and she will be greatly missed.

In accordance with Grace's wishes, there will be a small private funeral for close family and relatives on Sunday December 10, 2023. This will be followed by a celebration of Grace's life in 2024 for her friends, and relatives. Details to be determined.

As Grace was a passionate supporter of multiple charitable foundations, we would request a donation in lieu of flowers to any of these organizations: Sunnybrook Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society and Diabetes Canada.

I have known Grace since the early years during our undergraduate studies many decades ago, a rather shy and quiet lady was my initial impression. As I've also known Wilson for just as long (we are all mutual friends among the U of T group), that at this point in time, Grace's absence among us still feels quite unreal.

Grace, you'll be sorely missed by all of us, but warm memories of our friendship will last for as long as we shall all live.

Our condolences to Wilson and family on the tragic passing of Grace.

Grace was a friendly person with a beautiful smile that exuded her vibrant personality. We will miss her on Maxwell where she and Wilson were regular, and gracious, city walkers who enjoyed chatting with neighbours. Grace will also be missed at the ladies' street lunches where she was always happy to contribute to lively conversation. I remember Grace beaming when she told us that she would become a grandmother, and later when she would show us photos. Grace was also a generous neighbour. When our freezer broke down one summer, she did not hesitate to kindly store our food in her freezer. As a fellow world traveller, Grace was generous with sharing her, and Wilson's, extensive travel experiences, and we will miss those conversations. We feel that there was more friendship yet to be shared, and we are grateful for Grace's years on Maxwell Avenue.

May the happy memories of Grace continue to bless and inspire all who knew her.
John & Irene Roth
