In memory of

Grace Marie McDonell

September 28, 1947 -  June 8, 2021

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Grace Marie McDonell on Tuesday June 8th, 2021, in her 74th year. Grace was born in Flat Bay, Newfoundland on September 28th, 1947. Grace lived her life on her own terms right up until the end. She passed away peacefully with her children by her side.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Tom of 37 years.
Grace was the cherished mother of Tommy (Carol), Jay (Marnie), Mel (Damien).
She will be remembered for being strong minded, kind, nurturing mother-figure and a 2nd mom to so many especially to Elaine (Bill).

Predeceased by her mother Jean (Mackie) and father Patrick White; sisters Joyce (England), Grace (Scotland) and Sheena (Newfoundland). Survived by her sister Pat (Nova Scotia) and brother Frankie (Newfoundland).

Proud and loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren Amanda, Jaimie, Mitchell, Jordan, Jake, Ja’shon, Carly, Dejah, Niki, Owen and Sammy and two great grandchildren Remi and Knox. She was known as Grandma Grace to many others and will be dearly missed by all.

Grace was very proud of her home town of Flat Bay where she would spend many summers and has very fond memories of staying with family and visiting friends. She especially loved and looked forward to the Blueberry Festival and celebrating her indigenous roots at the annual Pow Wow held in Flat Bay.

Grace had many passions in life, besides her family she loved crocheting, sewing, crafting especially native arts and crafts along with spending time at the cottage on Curve Lake Reserve.

Grace will be sadly missed in Scotland, England, across Canada and in East York – where she was a proud resident for close to 50 years.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU/C6 units at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa, for their compassionate, kind and gentle care - they really went above and beyond.

As per her wishes and due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian or Ontario Lung Association or to a charitable organization of your choice.

Condolences can be made online at this time.

Grace was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. A supportive and caring daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.
She will be forever in our hearts and prayers.
Mom – we love you, we’ll miss you and will remember you always.

I am absolutely heartbroken to hear the news of Grace’s passing. I fell in love with Grace the first time I met her! She had such spunk and had a laugh that made me laugh! She instantly made me feel like she could be anyone’s mom, I found her so easy to talk to and felt so comfortable with her. I’ll always remember her laughing at me when I chopped her wood to make a campfire at her cottage. I think she called me a lumberjack! 😊❤️. May you RIP Grace and I hope you are in the loving arms of your Husband once again. Love Karen
