In memory of

Gordon Ernest Kirkpatrick

September 13, 1954 -  June 10, 2024

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in his 70th year. Beloved son of the late Margaret and Ernest Kirkpatrick, much loved brother of Barbara (the late Cory Vermeulen) and Eleanor (Steve Richmond). Favourite uncle of Margaret and her son Ethan, Matthew (Jenny), Ronda (Shawn) and their children Cameron, Madison and Braedan. Kristi (Tim) and their children Triniti, Maiyn and Carson. Cherished uncle of Scott (Asako) and their son Sean. Stephanie (Jason) and their children Aaron (Cassie), Ashley (Jacob), Andrew (Maya), Nathan and Tess (Reid). He will be missed by his special friends Brian and Janet Poxon who he affectionally called Mr. & Mrs. Winston Churchill.

Gordie was quite the local celebrity and could often be seen riding his bike to his favourite firehalls, where he made many cherished friends, since his first visit in 1959. He was loved by all who knew him and was especially proud to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming an honorary Fire Captain then Chief, positions which he took very seriously and meant the world to him. He had a love of freight trains, firetrucks and all emergency vehicles. Gordie was an active member of the Ontario Fire Buff Associates, an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays, local women's baseball, the Oshawa Generals and the Oshawa Fire Services Hockey League teams. A heartfelt thank you to the Firefighter's of Durham Region, and beyond, for always making him feel welcome during his frequent visits. Your friendship, kindness and patience meant more to Gordie, and his family, than you will ever know. Also a special thanks to the Durham Region Cancer Centre and the Lakeridge Health Palliative Care Unit for the care and compassion shown to Gordie.

In lieu of flowers the family are requesting donations to the Durham Region Cancer Centre and Lymphoma Canada

Impossible to put into words what I would like to express …

My whole life I got to grow up with such a sweet and fun loving uncle.

Uncle Gordie (he would never let us get away with NOT calling him that…although we sometimes snuck in shorty or old boy)!

Till the next time we get to do the ‘low five’

♥️♥️
