In memory of

Gordon David Ross

July 10, 1942 -  May 31, 2016

Gordon David Ross
Passed away peacefully at home with his family present on May 31, 2016 after 73 healthy, active years following a brief battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife Marilyn, son Brian (Rebecca), daughter Sheryl, granddaughter Kyla, brother Donald (Evelyn) and sister Marian Riach (Greg).
He was born in Hamilton July 10, 1942 son of the late Dr. John R. Ross and Eila Hopper. Gord grew up in Toronto's north end where developed his love of nature and skiing in the Don Valley ravine. He spent every summer in Muskoka where he fine-tuned his boating and waterskiing skills.
Music was the way Gord often expressed himself, first and always with the piano, but also as an excellent clarinet and acoustic bass player in the Upper Canada College Band.
Gord graduated from the University of Western Ontario and worked in a specialized area of the banking industry.
For the duration of his retirement years Gord volunteered his extra time. He was a volunteer for 10 years with the Canadian Cancer Society, regularly driving patients to and from their appointments. He was also a volunteer at the Brampton Civic Hospital where he played piano for patients and visitors in the main lobby.
Gord also dedicated his time to the Bruce Trail Conservancy helping with trail maintenance and forestry. Gord's volunteer work also included water sampling and testing every summer for the Muskoka Lakes Association with the committee responsible for ensuring clean water would be preserved for generations to come.
Gord and wife Marilyn traveled worldwide from the Galapagos Islands to Antarctica to Iceland with many friends and always went out West each year on the annual ski trip. But despite having traveled the world over, Gord's favorite place was always and will always be Muskoka.

Dear Marilyn and Family,
Gord was a great friend to the Bruce Trail and to all who came in contact with him. He will be missed. His "cheery" smile and pleasant manner was evident each time I met him. My condolences to you.

Dear Marilyn and family,
The first time I met Gord, he rode up to the start of the hike that day on his motorbike. That is not the usual mode of transport for hikers. He was diligent in collecting the loonies from the Tuesday hikers, always with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. At our pot luck socials, he would add a little piano solo for our dinner music. He will be sadly missed in our Caledon Hills Club. My sympathy to all his family and friends.

I didn't know your dad well, but I have a fond memory of him driving us, upon our return from our ski trip out to Whistler, in a horrible snow storm. He was a fun man! I know what it is like to lose a dad, and my heart is with you and your family, Sheryl. Big hugs!
