FLORIO, GIUSEPPE - - Passed peacefully at the Tony Stacey Centre for Veteran Care on Friday, December 29, 2023 in his 100th year. He was beloved husband to Rosalia (predeceased 2014). Loving father of Lucia (Carlo), Emanuele (Marlena), Mary (Paul), Rosario. Proud Grandfather of Paola, Amanda (Michael), Anthony (Leisha), Joseph (Katie), Chris (Meredith) Michelle and great-grandfather to Dakari, Paige, Simon, Luca and Lia. He will be missed by his sister-in-law, Agata Toso and his brother-in-law Corrado (Lucilla) Bonfanti and many nieces and nephews, family and friends in Canada, Italy and the USA.
Born on July 18, 1923 to Lucia and Emanuele Florio (predeceased) in Siracusa (Sicily) Italy he is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Pasquale and Ada Florio and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vincenzo and Maria Ristuccia, Paolo and Angela Bonfanti, Olimpio and Elena Rodaro and Giovanni Toso.
Giuseppe was a sprinter and soccer player in his early years and served in WW2. After the war, he married the love of his life Rosalia in July of 1955. He enjoyed a career as a painter for the Fiat Motor Company for many years in Italy. Immigrating to Canada on August 13th 1966 along with his family, he quickly found work as an auto body repair man until his retirement. Giuseppe enjoyed family gatherings, watching sports especially his favourite team, the Inter Milan soccer club and an occasional spirited card game with this brother-in-laws. He was a proud, card carrying member of the Inter Soccer Club Toronto till the very end, making him their oldest member. He was gentle and kind, loving and soft spoken with a wicked hidden sense of humour and was loved by all. He was a resident at the Tony Stacey Centre for Veterans Care during the last ten years of his life where he received gentle and compassionate care by the staff to whom family of Giuseppe Florio express their deep gratitude.
