Giovanna Patrizia McQuillan

A Wonderful Life Lived Elegantly

Giovanna (Jennie) McQuillan (nee Tamburro) was born on March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day) 1934 in Toronto, Ontario. She was the first grandchild of the Cavalluzzo family. Following the economic depression, life was a struggle for the family. Jennie’s education was unfortunately cut short at the age of 16 in order to help her family open one of the first Italian restaurants on the Danforth in Toronto. For a time, she worked 7 days a week to help support her family. Jennie’s passion for hard work, endless energy, cheerful personality and creative flair was developed in these early days at the family restaurant.
At the age of 26, Jennie met the love of her life, Thomas Patrick McQuillan through an office party at Mutual Life Insurance. Their marriage was followed by the birth of their two children Patricia and Geoffrey and she was aglow with happiness. They settled in Moore Park, until Giovanna’s perfect life was interrupted by her first battle with breast cancer at the age of 32. As always, Giovanna emerged victorious and even stronger than before.
Following her divorce, Jennie put the happiness of her children before all else. She acquired a real estate license and was determined to live a full life again.
Jennie worked as a realtor for 10 years with Royal LePage followed by several decades at Remax. Throughout her enjoyable real estate career, she partnered with her sister (and soulmate) Pauline and finally retired her license with ReMax All-Stars at the age of 88. Jennie received numerous awards throughout her career.
During her spare time, Jennie travelled the world with her best friend Dr John Jameson and later acquired a passion for cruising with her sister Pauline. Jenny was also a fabulous cook and famous for her meatballs and lasagna.
A 50+ year survivor of breast cancer, she encouraged others that it could be beat. She loved to laugh at herself and when she walked into a room, the party began. She had endless funny stories to tell.
Left behind to celebrate Jennie’s wonderful life are her daughter Patricia, (Pierre Beausejour), son Geoffrey, brother Rocco Tamburro (Charlene), sister Pauline Vatinno, much loved aunt of Paul, Joe and Lea, the Cavalluzzo and Tamburro clans and countless friends.
The family expresses deep gratitude to her close friend, Sharen Hagle, for making Jennie’s final months so comfortable. Jennie passed peacefully and elegantly on August 17, 2023 at Mackenzie Health, Richmond Hill.
Jennie will be cremated with a private interment.
In lieu of flowers, Jennie hoped that her friends and loved ones would consider a donation to “Purple Stride” Team Andra (for her niece who died of pancreatic cancer) or CAMH in support of those who struggle with addiction and mental health.

I had known Jennie (Mrs. McQuillan to me at first meeting) since the mid 70's. Anyone who spent any time around her or her home could not help but fall in love with her and her zest for life. Her meatballs are renowned for delicious obvious reasons. She was full of color and as sweet as a Georgia peach. She had a great and wacky sense of humor and thirst for fun and adventure. A beautiful woman both inside and out she made the world just that much better and fuller by her presence in it. I am endlessly proud to have known her and been able to call her my friend. May she rest in peace. You will be greatly missed.

Aunt Jennie was my much adored aunt and “Fairy Godmother.” From childhood through to adulthood, she was an integral part of my life, never missing a holiday, birthday or important milestone. She was warm, thoughtful and generous always arriving with bags of gifts for her grandnieces or treats for her grand-pets. Her glamour, radiant spirit, and fun-loving demeanour brought magic to every event…big or small. Thank you for the light and laughter Aunt Jennie. We will love you, miss you, and remember you always.
