In memory of

Giorgia Cristina Nicolo

July 12, 1978 -  February 1, 2022

In loving memory of
Giorgia Cristina Leggio Nicolo
July 12, 1978 - February 1, 2022

Peacefully on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, Giorgia passed away with her loving husband, children, family and closest friends by her side. Beloved wife of Nino Nicolo for 18 years and devoted mother of Michaela, Francesca, Mario and Gaetano Nicolo. Loving daughter of Francesco and Benedetta Leggio. Dear sister of Giovanni Leggio (Anita) and Maria Teresa Mazza (Joseph). Adored daughter-in-law to Maria and Mario Nicolo, dear sister-in-law to Antonietta (Anthony) Romeo, dear sister-in-law to Marcello (Maria Grazia) Nicolo and sweetest Aunt to her nephews and niece: Jacob, Naomi, Gabriel, Leo, Benny, Matteo, Adriano and Alessio. She was a ray of sunshine and her gracious presence will be treasured forever by her close friends and family.

Giorgia was raised in Scarborough and Markham, Ontario. She graduated from Brother Andre CHS and went on to earn her Bachelors of Arts and Education degrees through the Concurrent Education Program at York University. Upon graduating, she was immediately hired by the YCDSB, where she touched the lives of countless school communities throughout York Region, especially at Holy Name CES in King City, where she taught for the past 10 years.

On July 19, 2003, she married the love of her life, Nino and they settled in Richmond Hill. in 2005, they welcomed their first child Michaela and in 2006 Francesca was born. Feeling that their family was not quite complete, their first son Mario was born in 2009 and Gaetano followed in 2010. With 4 children, their family was complete.

Giorgia cherished being a wife, mother and teacher, She poured her heart and soul into everything she did for her family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and students. Giorgia had a huge and unforgettable smile, contagious laugh and the biggest, kindest heart. As a Physical Education teacher, she was passionate about teaching and promoting a healthy lifestyle to her students and bonding with the respective school staff. She understood that the meaning of life was all about creating beautiful moments and building great relationships with friends. She loved to go to summer camps, cottages, and spend time laughing with friends. Giorgia’s genuine interest in people and energy allowed her to touch many lives and make others feel important whether it was her closest family, friends, children in the school, connections through church or acquaintances. She loved bringing people together for special occasions and was a driving force in her family. She was a stellar mother to her beloved children whom she nurtured and fiercely supported in their academic and athletic pursuits. Nothing gave her more pleasure than seeing her kids spike a ball, score a soccer or hockey goal and/or get a basket, but as much as sports were important, education always came first. Let us thank her for the example of a positive individual, with strong faith, who lived life to the fullest and made it the best story she could possibly make it. Giorgia’s memory is a blessing, she was a shining star for all of us who knew her and she leaves a legacy of love. May light surround her in peaceful repose.

We are eternally grateful to everyone for their unwavering love, support and prayers during her courageous battle with glioblastoma.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance at the visitation and funeral service is private by invitation only however the funeral service will be livestreamed for public viewing on Friday February 4th, 2022 (a link will be available on Mrs. Giorgia Cristina Nicolo’s memorial page at 1:20 p.m.). My thoughts and prayers are with Georgia’s husband, their four children, immediate and extended family members during this incredibly difficult time. I had the honour and pleasure of hiring Georgia at St. Matthew CES and watched her develop into one of the most caring, dedicated and talented teachers YCDSB has known. Her smile, sense of humour and friendship has left us with a lifetime of memories! May you find comfort in the days ahead knowing that Georgia is now at peace in the loving arms of our Father.
Sincerely,
Frances
