In memory of

Jerry Stitt

July 23, 1928 -  July 23, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Jerry Stitt announce his passing on July 23, 2018 …his 90th birthday.

Much loved father of Carole, (Don Carmichael) Mark, Mike, and Rob. Very special and adored Grampa of Emilee and Meilin. He was predeceased by his sweet Lorraine in 2016.

Jerry was a man of action who was constantly learning and engaging in the world around him and these qualities stayed with him right up to the end. In spite of the challenges that he faced in his last years, he was determined to be part of the world and not watch from the sidelines. His love of tennis, jogging, rowing, skiing, golf, music, card games, and his participation in many community organizations throughout his life was eclipsed only by his joy in the collection of many good friends that he made and kept along the way. He enjoyed many years at Loon Lake and was happiest when the camp was full of friends and family enjoying yet another wonderful meal from Mom’s kitchen.

Dad was one in a million and the quote by Maya Angelou that was sent to us by one of his support workers best sums up how he continued to influence people even as his illness progressed “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better”.

As Dad requested there will be no funeral. A private internment of his ashes will be held at a later date.

A great game of tennis or a long row across the lake followed by a large glass of good wine would be a wonderful way to celebrate and remember the lives of Lorraine and Jerry.

We would like to thank the staff at Chartwell Isabella in Thunder Bay and Del Manor Elgin Mills in Richmond Hill for their kind and compassionate support of Dad.

If people so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the ThunderBay Regional Cancer Center are respectfully requested.

“There comes a time when suddenly you realize that laughter is something you remember; it is then that you know that truly there are no ordinary moments”

Loon Lake will never quite be the same. I am sure we will all catch ourselves looking out for the rowboat going down the lake, or the yellow sweatshirt at the tennis tournament, for some time to come. Will anyone ever quite have the same sense of humor? From (erroneous!) weather predictions, to banana prizes, the signature Stitt smiley face will linger on in our memories.

Carole and family, so sorry to hear of Gerry's passing. Even though it is a blessing in his final days, it is still hard to loose a loved one. Gerry was larger than life and will be greatly missed by many and fondly remembered. Our memories of Gerry are on the skii hill zooming down the Giant so gracefully or at one of many cocktail parties, drink in hand, chatting and laughing. We are thinking of you all and send our condolences.
