In memory of

George Ziquan Wang

April 5, 2004 -  September 11, 2024

George fought very hard for many years to beat his severe depression, and was committed to his recovery until the day he died. It was profoundly sad to see such a brilliant and kind young man imprisoned in such a powerful darkness, and we’re comforted to know that he is finally free, healed and at rest in heaven. The last word in his notebook was ‘God’.

George was pursuing an Energy Systems Engineering major in the Engineering Sciences program at the University of Toronto as a Dean’s Honours List student, and loved being part of the close-knit EngSci community. George has always been exceptionally gifted and studious, with a penchant for learning about engineering systems and exploring advanced mathematical applications.

George was born in Richmond Hill, and proud of his Chinese Canadian heritage. He was an alumni of Hartman Public School, Wellington Public School and University of Toronto Schools (UTS). He loved swimming, skiing, playing basketball and ping pong, and introducing his friends to fun boardgames and new snacks. He also enjoyed participating in the UofT Engineering dragon boat team and working out.

His memory will be forever cherished by his mom (Cathy Kezhi Jin), dad (Jason Yansheng Wang), sister (Annie Ziyu Wang), brother-in-law (Sander De Groote), grandparents, the rest of his family in Canada, US, Belgium and China, as well as his many friends. George had the privilege to travel to 16 countries in 4 continents in his 20 years of life.

We will miss his beautiful smile, his enormous bear hugs, and gentle loving nature.

A memorial service will be held at Elgin Mills Cemetery in Richmond Hill on Saturday September 21st 2024. Visitation will take place from 1pm to 2pm EST, followed by a chapel service 2pm to 3pm EST, and ground burial. The service will also be livestreamed. The family invites everyone whose life George has touched to gather, reminisce and celebrate his life together.

We are immensely grateful for the compassionate care that George received at St. Michael’s Hospital over the course of the past year, and have set up a personalized memorial page if you would like to make a contribution; https://stmichaelsfoundation.com/GeorgeWang

My son is George’ high school classmate. It’s hard to believe what had happened to your family. I’am so deeply sorry for your loss. In my memory, George is still a little boy, very intelligent and always smiling. 永远怀念他!保重!
