In memory of

George Won

November 13, 1959 -  May 28, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Won, who sadly passed away peacefully at the age of 64 at the Bridgepoint Hospital Palliative Care Unit on May 28, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends.

Beloved husband for more than 31 years, soulmate and best friend to Fay, devoted father to Amanda. George also leaves behind his mother Kin Won, sister Jenny (Alvin), niece Karina (Daanish), nephew Jason, sister-in-law Lynne (Peter) and many cousins.

George was a humble man who loved many things. He loved to read, write, listen to music, manage finances, invest in the stock market, and to invent. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family with all his heart. Every day, he would always stress the importance of family and how they must always be loved and treasured.

George was a gentle soul who above all loved his wife Fay and his daughter Amanda with everything he had. He loved travelling and taking walks with them, and helping them in their everyday lives.

He would always say how grateful he was to have found his soulmate who gave him the world, his daughter. Watching Amanda grow up was his pride and joy and he will continue to do so from his place in heaven.

Everyone who had the privilege of knowing him knew he had a unique sense of humour and would always love to try and make people laugh. He had a beautiful smile. He was a people person and got along well with everyone. George was a giving man, a true friend, a faithful brother, a devoted son, and a loving husband and father.

He was a long-time employee of the City of Toronto, having started off his career there as the Supervisor of Financial Services at the Metropolitan Toronto Works Department in 1992 and transitioning in 1999 to be the Manager, Financial Services in Policy, Planning, Finance & Administration, a role he held until his retirement following more than 24 years of service. At work, he was a dedicated, thoughtful and conscientious manager and enjoyed working with his colleagues. A team player, he valued his staff and coworkers.

Although he will be missed dearly, he will always be with us and live on through our memories of him. George would want us to remember him through the good times, to love and to honour his memory by celebrating the fulfilling life he had. Take comfort in knowing he is in a better place and is finally at peace.

George, we love you and miss you with all our hearts. We will remember you always, for you are in our thoughts, our memories, and our prayers.

Until we meet again, rest in peace.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, the Toronto General Hospital, the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Albany Medical Clinic for their amazing care and support through the years.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Foundation in George’s memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.

George Won’s life in one sentence . It would be …PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY what George DID, OR WHAT he SAID ~BUT~ THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER him for how they made them FEEL. Of course it is going to take a lot more sentences to describe George’s life.

I worked with George at the City of Toronto and we retired not far apart in time. I remember that he was looking forward to spending time with his family in retirement. I would like to offer my sympathy to his family at his loss.

We have known George and his family for over 20 years. We've had many wonderful times together at Centre Island and Ontario Place when our daughters were young. We celebrated many Lunar New Year gatherings together. We also attended several enchanting concerts where his daughter Amanda sang with the Toronto Children's Chorus. George, you will be missed.
