In memory of

George Tsuyuki

June 20, 1929 -  July 28, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that George Yoshitsugu Tsuyuki, a husband, entrepreneur, and hero to four generations of family, has left us at the age of 96. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his sons Robert and Gary Tsuyuki, and his daughter-in-law Cheryl, who held his hand until his very last breath.

George was less of a role model and more like a folk hero to his family, and the story of his life has become a legend to everyone whose lives he touched. Born in B.C. to a farming family, as the eldest brother to four sisters, George developed a unique brand of “whatever works” survivalism and canny independence that carried him through his family’s displacement and internment during the Second World War. It was an injustice that left him with an enduring pride in his Japanese-Canadian heritage, and a lifelong nostalgia for his farmboy roots, but which he always recounted with a certain pride in his teenage self, who learned to look at life a little sideways, like an adventure, like a puzzle that could be solved with a little jury-rigging and wilfulness and making-do.

His cleverness, friendliness, and stubborn work ethic carried him through the rest of life, through logging camps and high school in the post-war period, through a prodigiously unlikely list of part-time jobs, through college, marriage, family, daring exploits in almost every country in the world, and, of course the birth of G & G Electronics, his dream, that thrives on to this day.

Few can claim a life as colourful as George’s–not many would dare to try. The absence of his trademark wide grin or stubborn grimace or feigned wide-eyed innocence, will be missed by all who knew him.

He will be forever treasured by his family, including his wife of over 70 years, Shizue; his sons and daughters-in-law Gary & Cheryl and Robert & Seungheui; his grandchildren Dave (Tiffany), Katie (Jamie Thompson), and Sydney; and his great-grandchildren Taylor, Devin, and Riley Tsuyuki.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Rd, Toronto, ON. Family eulogies will be shared by Gary and Robert at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, we would encourage donations to the Scarborough Health Network, which offered him compassionate and dedicated care in his final days.

🕊️ In Loving Memory of Mr. George Tsuyuki 🕊️

I was just 17 years old when I walked into G&G Electronics for the first time in 1979, proud to have saved up enough to buy a Sansui stereo system. That system still works to this day—a testament not only to its craftsmanship, but to the care and excellence Mr. Tsuyuki poured into his business.

George wasn't just a salesman—he was a legend. A man whose warmth and integrity turned every transaction into a meaningful connection. You didn't just leave G&G with a product; you left with a smile, a story, and often the "Family Discount" long before that was ever a thing.

What made G&G special wasn't just the electronics—it was the spirit of family George fostered. I remember how he spoke proudly of his son at Western University, and later, of his granddaughter’s Olympic skiing aspirations. His wife often finished his sentences, their shared smiles reflecting the quiet joy of a life well lived together.

Commuting past the big Sony billboard on Kingston Road, I'd see his face up there—smiling, familiar, iconic. And it always made me smile too.

To Gary, Steve, and the entire Tsuyuki family: my deepest condolences on the loss of your father, uncle, and mentor. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the lives he touched—including mine.

Forever grateful, A longtime customer and admirer Brian Carrington

A Life of Dedication, Family, and Community

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Tsuyuki, the beloved founder of G&G Electronics, on July 28, 2025, at the age of 96. George passed peacefully in palliative care at Scarborough General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, who held his hand until the very end.

George’s story is one of ambition, dedication, and service. In 1954, he founded G&G Electronics, laying the foundation for what would become a trusted name in Canadian electronics retail. His vision and commitment to outstanding customer service and high-quality products became the cornerstone of our business—a principle that still guides us today, over 70 years later.

Beyond the business, George was a pillar of the West Hill and Scarborough community. He gave generously to local causes and supported numerous community initiatives, always striving to make a positive impact.

George’s life was deeply rooted in family. He worked side by side with his wife, Shiz, and involved his children Robert and Gary, his daughter-in-law Cheryl, grandchildren Dave, Katie, and Sydney, and his grandchildren-in-law Tiffany and Jamie Thompson, in the business. Even his great-grandchildren and countless cousins have been part of the G&G family over the years.

We are truly grateful for the outpouring of support and condolences from our customers, friends, and suppliers. Without your loyalty and trust, G&G would not have stood the test of time.
