In memory of
George Thomas
March 19, 1940 -
July 27, 2017
George passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday July 27, 2017. He was a man who lived for his family. A beloved husband to his adoring wife Gayle, the pair recently surpassed their 50th wedding anniversary. The son of Anastasia and Dimitri, George was a wonderful and loving father to Michael (Lesley) and Jacquie (Michael) and an adored grandfather of Zoë, Meghan, Alyssa and Steven. He was a caring brother to his many siblings: John (Evelyn), Chris (Voula) and Donna (Bill) here in Canada, and in Greece, Chrisanthy (Stavros), Angelo (Eleftheria) and Kosta. He was also a favourite uncle and great uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He came to Toronto in 1960 from a small village in northern Greece named Xanthogia. A brilliant businessman, he arrived with very little and built a number of successful companies. He was well loved within his business sphere as well as his local community where he was known for his honest and generous, philanthropic spirit. He supported local kids sports through sponsorship and management and was a long-serving arts volunteer as the first president of the board of Theatre Gargantua.
Known for his impeccable taste and sense of style, George was always dressed to the nines, whether that was a business suit or a captains hat in his cabin cruiser. He will be remembered for his generosity, his love of life and his devotion to his family. He is greatly missed and we will forever keep him close in our hearts.
In the last years of his life, Gayle’s loving devotion to George’s care was supported by a team of strong, considerate, passionate people who ensured him the best possible quality of life. These PSW’s, specifically Agnes, Mary Mae, Jacqueline, Gopa, and Jacquelyn loved George beyond measure and for their years of dedication the entire family is deeply grateful.
