In Loving Memory of Gah Jom (Jim) Loo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gah Jom (Jim) Loo, who left us on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Sunnybrook Hospital, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Jim was 90 years old.

Jim was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind his devoted wife, Jannie, and their four children: Roland, Rae, Ruby and Alex. He was also a cherished grandfather to three granddaughters: Vanessa, Nicole, and Valerie.

Born in Hoiping, China, Jim's journey to Canada at the age of 17 was a testament to his perseverance and determination. With little knowledge of the English language and very few financial resources, Jim worked tirelessly to build a life for himself and his family. Through sheer dedication and hard work, he not only provided for his loved ones but also managed to send support to his family back in China.

Jim’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start a thriving Dry Cleaning business, which continues to operate successfully today—a lasting symbol of his grit, resilience, and the power of hard work. "Hard work does pay off!"

Despite the challenges he faced, Jim was known for his quiet strength and his unwavering commitment to his family. He instilled in his children the values of humility, strong work ethics, and the importance of education, ensuring that his legacy would live on through them. Jim’s quiet demeanour and profound wisdom touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jim will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. A funeral service will be held on October 12, 2024, to honour his life and legacy.

Dear Mrs. Loo, Roland, Rae, Ruby, Alex, and the extended Loo family,
It has been my privilege and honour to count Ruby as my very dear friend for nearing 40 years, and through this friendship I have come to know and spend time with many of the Loo family members. I cannot think of a finer family. Mr. Loo's bravery, his dedication to hardwork, his integrity and so many other upstanding qualities are reflected in the generosity, accomplishments, and humility of his children. You all do honour to his memory.

Our sincere condolences at the loss of your husband and father.

Sheila (McIlraith) with David (Fleet), Charlotte, and Andrew
