In memory of

Fred Haas

March 21, 1936 -  August 31, 2024

Fred (Friedrich) Haas peacefully passed away at 88 years of age on August 31, 2024.

Fred ‘Fritzl’ was born on March 21, 1936 and was raised in St Veit near Graz, Austria to Julie and Friedrich Haas. He was the youngest of 5 children; Hans, Erna, Frances, Maria and Friedrich Jr. He spent his childhood learning to ski, getting into mischief, playing a high level of soccer, and becoming a Master Furniture Designer/Builder before moving to Canada with his parents in July 1954.
He landed in Quebec City and travelled to Montreal. Shortly after he made his way to Toronto where he started working for Shully’s as a recheck man.
On the long weekend in August of 1958 at the age of 22 he met the love of his life, Liebgart (née Klein). They were wed in October 1959 and began their journey together that lasted almost 66 years.
Fredi and Liebgart welcomed a son, Stephen in August 1960 and a daughter, Margaret in September 1965.
Over the years Fred returned to school and studied Architecture. He went on to become the General Manager and VP of Viceroy Homes, won numerous awards, was nominated for the Order of Canada and designed hundreds of beautiful homes and cottages all across Ontario’s many lakes.
Upon retiring from Viceroy, Fred continued to grow his own business, Tech Home with his son Stephen. This phase of his life coincided with the arrival of 5 grandchildren. He absolutely loved his new role as Opa.
Liebgart and Fred spent many years entertaining friends and family at their home and cottage, travelling (especially to Alberta and BC), listening to music, dancing and sharing their mutual love of family. Libby spent many hours enduring his love of westerns.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife Liebgart, his son Stephen (Christine, née LaChance), his daughter Margaret (John), his cherished grandchildren; Lana and Matthew (Stephen Haas) and Stephen, Julia and Michael (Margaret Haas Dietrich), as well as his sister Maria (Jeschke) and his brother Hans.
He is, and will continue to be, deeply loved and missed.

Very sorry to hear of Fred’s passing.
I enjoyed the many years with the family and seeing the design work by Fred.
I am sorry we lost contact for the past years but I still cherish the memories of Fred and his design of our cottage in Muskoka.
Very sad

Really sorry to hear of his passing, my family and I send our condolences. We get many compliments on the beautiful cottage he designed and built for our family, and it is now my mom's home. I have many fond memories of Mr. Haas, his kindness and sense of humour, when I spent time with Margaret and her family, as a child and growing up.
