<div itemprop="description">Friedwald Karl Barthel, lovingly known by friends and family &nbsp;as Fred was born in Gilgenburg, East Prussia in 1926. Fred had no ordinary life : from enlisting to fight in the war &nbsp;at the age of 17 to boarding an immigrant ship to come to Canada in 1956, these were not easy nor ordinary decisions for a young person. But he made a good life for himself, his wife Trudy whom he survived and enjoyed many happy years with his&nbsp;second life companion Jean Lowery. He will be very much missed by his son Peter and granddaughter Amanda , their families and Fred's dear friend Emmy Doebert.</div>
