Frances Alice Galloway

July 26, 1927 - January 11, 2018

On January 11, 2018 at the age of 90 years. Dearly beloved wife of Charles T. P. Galloway, formerly Chief Actuary and President of the National Life Assurance Company of Canada. Mrs. Galloway was the daughter of David and Tilda Mackiy and was born in Richmond Hill. The family lived in Nobel when her father worked at munitions plants during the war, after which they returned to Richmond Hill. She later attended the University of Toronto. When she first walked into the office of National Life Mr. Galloway took notice and later when he saw her radiant smile fell immediately in love. Mrs. Galloway worked as a calculator in the Actuarial Department and subsequently processed claims. After retiring to raise a family she became the mother of Charlene Galloway (Steve Middleton), Pamela Watkin (Fred Watkin), Deborah Galloway (Frank Petty), grandmother of Michelle Watkin (Steve Borenstein), Stephanie Watkin (Jesse Brown), Eric Watkin, Jennifer Goslett, and Andrew Goslett. The Galloways married on October 26, 1956 and they were partners, pals, lovers and friends for 61 years.

Fran was Debbie's mom, and Debbie was my first year roommate at university in 1979. Debbie and I have been lifelong close friends, and I was privileged in that period to get to know the Galloway family. Fran was a lovely lady, sweet and gracious, and I extend my deepest sympathy to all the Galloways at this sad time.

I am so sorry that Francis has left us. I have many great memories of her. Someone once sympathized with me when I told them I was going to spend the weekend with my in-laws while I was truly looking forward to the visit. I have many wonderful memories of those family get together’s at the Galloway home in Caledon. From the first day that I met Francis and Charles I felt so very welcomed into their home and their lives. They treated me like their own son. I remember, it didn’t matter how early you got up, Francis would be busy in the kitchen making breakfast and then a few hours later starting dinner preparations. It’s good she fed us because if it were up Charles we would have all be eating Chinese take-out or nothing at all except maybe Rum & Coke. She spoiled me, my wife and my children with love, affection and generosity. I will never forget the big hugs I use to get every time I saw her. I will never forget her and will miss her dearly. My heartfelt thoughts are with her husband, children and grandchildren. I hope and pray that she is now at peace and resting in comfort.
