In memory of

Florence Guy

September 13, 1947 -  March 9, 2017

Florence died at sunrise on the morning of March 9th at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. She is lovingly remembered by her partner of 41 years, Terry, her children Anthony (Yawen) and Madeleine (Mike), her grandchildren, Priscilla, Owen and Emma, her sisters Louise and Denyse, her brother Stewart and her dear friend Joanne Mackay-Bennett.

Florence was a wonderful example of what it means to be true to oneself. Her crystal clear intellect and compassionate sensibilities brought joy and inspiration to the people around her. She was an avid reader and brilliant cook who loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Florence grew up in Quebec City and moved to Toronto in 1969. She dedicated her career to broadening opportunities for others; from teaching ESL and literacy to creating more accessible learning tools and programs. Since her retirement in 2014, she took several meaningful trips with Terry and just last summer, they enjoyed a trip to La Beauce in Quebec to delve more deeply into her family roots.

Florence was a unique and wonderful person. We will miss her warmth, her smile and her wit, but maybe most of all, her infectious laugh.

A visitation will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road
(east gate entrance) on Friday March 17 between 4pm and 8pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 4pm in the Chapel, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre or Wellspring.

My deepest sympathy to Florence's family and friends. I had the pleasure of working with Florence from the beginning of her career in the Ontario Public Service to my retirement in 2014. Florence was so smart and very compassionate and probably one of the most ethical individuals I’ve ever worked with.

I'm writing on behalf of all the "Wolfrunners", the book club that Florence and Rebecca founded about 25 years ago. I recall Florence always so well read and opinionated and knowledgeable. I can remember many of the books that she recommended and many of our fun and lively discussions. Unfortunate for us, Florence stopped attending about ten years ago and after that we saw her only once in a while. We are all so sorry to hear about her passing and send her family our deepest condolences.
