In memory of

Flanagan Frederick James (Jim)

February 9, 1959 -  November 23, 2021

After an achingly short battle with cancer, Jim Flanagan passed away on November 23, 2021 at home, aged 62. Jim was stoic and brave, offering comfort to others during his darkest hour. Born in St. John, NB, to Frederick James and Lorraine, and spending his childhood in Montreal, Jim was the golden boy, winning a baby beauty contest the same year the family's beagle won first place in a dog show. Jim met and made friends in many places, relishing in their stories and offering strong opinions on just about everything. Well read and intelligent, Jim's wit was matched by his humility. He treated everyone fairly, enjoyed simple pleasures and was always ready for a good time.

Jim's preternatural decency is a legacy that will live on. Jim leaves his beloved partner of 20+ years, Maureen, his devoted sisters Marilyn and Susan and their families, Scott, Haley, Mark, Sophie and Matthew.

Private interment Saturday December 4, 2021. Celebration of LIfe to take place in Spring 2022.

If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Knowing Jim for a long time, whether it was when I worked with him, or when I walked across the street, whenever he saw me it was always a heartfelt holler and wave.

His humour will always be remembered, and his Jimmy-isms cherished.

Hold his memory close Maureen. You will be able to smile one day. Until then, we all hold you in our thoughts...

Although I didnt know Jimmy personally I felt that he was known to me and very familiar due to Maureen's constant updates of their life and most especially the "jimmyisms" that I came to love and look forward to. Maureen shared Jimmy's wit, intelligence and humour thru these posts but most importantly she shared their utter love for one another. May God bless and keep you Jimmy.

Jimmy took some time to warm up to me being the new girl serving him a pint. Once he did, we spent afternoons browsing the flyers; he help me find deals on my ‘magic potions’ (anti aging creams 🤣) we played the birthday game (Toronto suns celebrity birthdays - I had to guess how old the celebrity was)
occasionally he’d join me on a dog walk if we bumped into each other. AND I got to listen to his opinions about everything and everyone.
A friendship I never expected but grew to adore and cherish as he annoyed the shit out of me, made me laugh always with his ‘jimmyisms’, carried his plastic bag briefcase with him that could account for his entire day ♥️ (who needs technology?) and of course the glue: missy aka Maureen aka his angel.
Jimmy, Rest In Peace sweet man.

Sadness is overwhelming, but the wonderful memories are too. Jimmy never really entered a room, he bounded in with a zest for life and endless energy, and just as quickly bounced back out of the room leaving behind a saucy comment. This is the wonder of life that was Jimmy. His generosity & spirit knew no limits, thank you Jimmy. "Hey Neighbour".
