We all live in our time and dear old Fred lived in his. I wish I got to know him better but having chosen to settle in the UK and both him and Florrie my sister, in Canada we never got to be that close. Nevertheless, I recall him for two instances. First was that he introduced me to the Canadian submarine sandwich before we knew what it meant here in the UK back in the 70's. "See how much you get to eat" he said. Hmm, I've never been able to get rid of the extra weight as a result. But on a more prosaic note, the second instance was when during the East African troubles we got scattered all over the place but Fred and Florrie were able to offer my dear fragile mother a home with them in Canada. Whatever's gone on since, I say thank you Fred. Farewell my friend and thanks for the memories.
