In memory of

Eva Dolly Giles

July 11, 1930 -  December 8, 2024

Eva (Dolly) Giles, (nee Hardinge), passed away on Dec. 8, 2024. Dolly lived with grace and died with Dignity. Born in Ireland in 1930 she immigrated to Canada in 1938 with her parents, Jack and Catherine Hardinge, and siblings Molly (Gord) Fletcher, Kitty, Knight, Derek (Ilse) Hardinge, Moira (Stuart) Johnson and spent her youth growing up in The Beach. The Goof, the Fox, Balmy and Kew, all her stomping grounds. She was proud of her entrance into employment at McLean Hunter working up to the position of Secretary to the President. She knew what she wanted. Furs and cars. In her early 20s she had her own Ford Meteor, rare for a young woman, if not unheard of in those days. There has always been a debate as to who ran into who, but it was in that Ford that she ran into (literally) George B. Giles and 6 months later they married. Dolly & George moved to Scarborough to raise their family of 3 daughters, Arlene (Shane Hunt), Colleen, and Maureen (Gavin Pitchford). It wasn’t long though before she returned to the workforce at the family business, which she continued to do until her late 80s, and still driving! She and George had a wonderful life spending summers at cottages and winters vacationing at their Florida home. Dolly was happiest in the early years entertaining, or spending time at “110” her childhood home on Beech Avenue that had a revolving door with family, activities, and good old Irish comradery, aka, feasting and drinking. Dun da Banh. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, David, Andrew (Lisa), Jeff (Caitlin), Meghan, Stephanie (Rohan), Andrea (Jason), Karl, Kurt, Shelby (Ken) and Shay, & 12 great-grandchildren; Scarlett, Addison, Bennett, Weston, Hank, Rex, Sienna, Campbell, Martin, Pepper, Jolene, Kian. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, family in Ireland, New Zealand, and the USA. A private funeral to be arranged and as there will be no formal service, instead, please consider doing a random act of kindness for a friend or stranger.

Dolly was always very kind to me, we also worked together at Giles Tools in the early-80s. She was always well dressed and loved driving her Ford Mustang to work on Granger Ave. This is how I'll remember Aunt Dolly... you'll be missed.

My deepest condolences Arlene, Colleen and Maureen for the loss of your Mom.

I am thinking of all of you and so many children and grandchildren (and so great grands as well). Sending love and strength. I have many warm memories including fried bananas at the island for breakfast, and laughter at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Grandpa's birthdays... I am grateful to have had her presence grace my life.
