In memory of

Ethan Ryan Tse

July 6, 2000 -  June 19, 2016

After a courageous battle with cancer, Ethan passed away with his family by his side on Sunday June 19th, 2016 at the age of 15. Beloved son of Eric and Cindy and cherished brother of Kalea. Ethan will be missed by his grandparents, aunts and uncles, extended family and friends and by his cousins Lucas and Nathan who were like brothers to him. A special thank you to the Sick Kids nurses from 8A who were always an enthusiastic audience, and to those who came to visit Ethan in the hospital, for their time, support and friendship.
In lieu of flowers or cards, the family encourages friends to leave a message or a happy memory, share a photo or video on the website to celebrate Ethan’s life and magic with others.

I am saddened with the news of the passing of one of my long time students Ethan Ryan Tse. Ethan started training at the taekwondo academy on Oct 19, 2009 and has attained the rank of 2nd Poom Black Belt. He was preparing for his 3rd Dan Black Belt Promotion Test. He was a dedicated and committed taekwondo student, he brought a smile to the class with his humour and amazing magic tricks.

A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on. Please accept my condolences on behalf of the Myungs taekwondo family to the Tse family, Ethan will not be forgotten.

Sincerely,

Master Edward Fong, ChPC

It was with much sadness and regret to learn that my family friend, Ethan Tse passed away after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer.

I remember many positive memories of Ethan from since he was a little boy until recently, a teenager where he was looking forward to starting new chapters of life. I remember interacting with him often at past family occasions where, as a young boy he just naturally gets the best energy out of people. He offered a lot of character being highly social with everyone, and rarely showed any shyness to others, but knew how to adapt and bring a smile to anyone he interacted with.

For the past 6 months, I often visited Ethan and found him mature beyond his age. As I interacted with him, I found him to be very funny, social, intelligent, knowledgeable, and communicated with great attention to detail at anything we discussed. I had lots of pleasure discussing our shared interests in video games, sports, movies, magic, comics, and everyday life.

Ethan, I will miss seeing you around. But I will always be by your side with full encouragement, support, and great respect!

Sincerely,

Family Friend

My sincere condolences to Ethan's family and friends. Ethan demonstrated, during his time in my class, that he was a caring young adult that was loved by his peers. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

Dear Family,
We are deeply saddened to hear of Ethan's passing. All of us have been touched by Ethan's warm spirit and beautiful smile. We also have the pleasure of knowing several family members and we are in awe of the close knit bond that you all share. We want you to know that Ethan has touched our community in a powerful way and we will remember his spirit. My children particularly feel the loss for Kalea, Nathan and Lucas - we pray for everyone's strength.
I will always smile and remember Ethan when I see Starbucks across the street...I remember regularly seeing Ethan walking there wearing his stylish hats.
Rest in peace Ethan - your spirit will endure.

Drama is one of those funny subjects. lt's classified as an art, but it also has a lot to do with the literacy skills of communication and making connections. Everyone thinks, at one time or another, that they would like to act like the people seen on stage and screen, but in reality it's a lot harder than it looks. To connect with your own experience and feelings, to share them with others, and to be able to portray those feelings in such a way that you open a door for an audience to connect their experiences to yours, is both challenging and, honestly, downright scary.

I could go down the list of Drama expectations in the curriculum, using phrases such as "the creative process" and "exploring forms", but that wouldn't do justice to the individual receiving the Drama award this evening.

He has a very informal, natural style when it comes to drama. When presenting his monologue in class, he didn't just recite the words of the monologue, he walked around the room, using movement and expression to bring the words, and the feelings behind them, to life. He invited his audience to connect with the character he was portraying. And that, in itself, is not an easy thing to do.

So please join with me in congratulating this year's recipient of the Dramatic Arts award. . . Ethan Tse.
