In memory of

Erwin Eiberger

August 2, 1933 -  November 13, 2023

With sadness, we announce the passing of Erwin Eiberger on Nov. 13, 2023 at home. Erwin was predeceased by his parents, Johann and Anna Eiberger; his brother, Johann Eiberger; and sisters Jenny Heisler and Mathilde Budnik. He is survived by his nephews, Fred and Peter Budnik; and the extended Eiberger and Budnik families.

Erwin was born on Aug. 2, 1933 in Augsburg, Germany. In his early twenties, one of the pioneers of his family, he came to Toronto to build a new life. He soon embarked on his career as a precision machinist in the tool and die field. Never married, Erwin, together with his sister Jenny, established the family home on McNairn Ave., where he lived for over 60 years. He had many interests, including gardening, swimming, cooking, baking, and photography. Erwin enjoyed travel: over the years, he and Jenny undertook a variety of European tours. Driving trips to Quebec City, Cape Cod, and Lake Placid will be remembered fondly. In retirement, Erwin cared daily for his sister Jenny and then continued to volunteer at the Senior's Health Centre for some 15 years after her passing. On his own, he again visited Germany twice to reconnect with lifelong friends and family.

Erwin will always be remembered as a kind and supportive man, with a positive nature that brightened the world around him. He was well known for a witty remark and his jokes, often corny. Erwin always maintained his gentle German accent, while priding himself in learning the ways of his adopted home, traits that spoke to the gentleman he always was. In death, his spirit lives on in the countless happy memories he has created for friends and family alike.

Dear Budnik family- we were so sorry to hear of Erwin’s passing. He really was an incredible man and such a friendly neighbour. He always had a joke to tell or a story to share. He was kind and thoughtful and so vibrantly independent.
My grandparents were originally from Germany (Landau and Cologne). One day, around Christmas time, I told him my favourite memories were baking lebkuchen cookies with my Granny. He promptly went inside and brought me a plate of the fresh batch that he had just baked.
We loved to hear stories of his active lifestyle and how he volunteered at “the old people’s home,” as he called it… where everyone was younger than him.
He will be very dearly missed on our street. We count ourselves lucky to have had the chance to get to know him.

Dear Fred, Peter and Family,
We would like to send our deepest condolences to you both and our entire family. We will miss Uncle Erwin very much. He was a very kind, thoughtful, caring, funny and positive man.
We would often talk about his garden, baking, volunteer work and swimming. I would share stories and pictures with him of our family(my husband and two daughters) via email and seasonal cards, and I always looked forward to getting his replies.
He enjoyed visiting our family cottage too.
I have a lot of fond memories of him on Christmas Eve, and during the holidays at my parents home. In the Spring, we would exchange Easter pictures too via email.
I will always remember his kind spirit.
Sincerely,
Monica Costello (nee. Budnik) and Family

So sad to hear of Erwin's sudden passing. My deepest sympathy to my nephews Fred & Peter.

With my brother being married to Erwin's sister Mathilde, I have known Erwin for many years. Over the years we celebrated many family gatherings together, from numerous Christmas and New Year's gatherings to milestone birthday and anniversary celebrations.

Our paths also crossed when he came to the cottage for a little rest and relaxation. We had many wonderful chats about gardening, flowers and travel.

I will always remember him as a very kind and patient person - qualities that I admired greatly. I feel very blessed to have known him.

He will be missed.

I never met Erwin, but over the past twenty years I have heard many stories about his and his family's life and his dedication to it.
