In memory of

Ernie Kwong

March 19, 1958 -  November 21, 2022

Ernie (Lok-Kay) Kwong, born in Toronto on March 19, 1958, passed away suddenly on November 21, 2022 at the age of 64. He is survived by his loving wife Melinda Wong, and brother and sisters: Yuey, Lily, Mae, and Sally, as well ask his niece and nephews: Chris, Emily, Michael, Matthew and Nicholas. He is also missed by his faithful companion Milo.

In his youth, Ernie dedicated his spare time to working at his parents’ restaurant, New Systems, on Dundas St East in Old Chinatown, Toronto. He was very proud of helping them prepare fresh Yukon fries in the basement of their family restaurant. He was also a fierce protector of his family; defending them from neighborhood bullies; breaking up fights and risking his own life to rescue the family and help them to escape from the house fire.

After meeting Melinda in 2006 and marrying in 2010, Ernie discovered a love of world travel, visiting many countries and taking several cruises (Alaska, Eastern Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, to name a few). He loved to talk about all the weight he gained during their trips and food that he enjoyed most - Toute Garni & Häagen-Dazs.

He also loved playing badminton, taking swings at the golf range, playing Toonblast, home karaoke, disco dancing to the groove and closely following select horses (especially Is It Friday Yet?). He had plans to continue some of his favorite hobbies when he retired: travelling to Ghirardelli House in San Francisco, moving to our first condo in Beloeil, QC and improving his drawing techniques of superheroes and the renaissance.

Ernie will be fondly remembered for his love of talking to people about anything and everything, and for his bubbly and energetic personality.

To all who have supported the family during this difficult time, in particular the extended Kwong family, Hugh, Simon and Ernie’s badminton team, thank you for your love and support.

Ernie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is now reunited with his parents Mary Wong and Chuck Kwong and is resting in God’s ever-loving embrace.

A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held on Friday December 2nd, 2022 at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road, North York, Ontario.

Viewing: 12:30 – 14:00 Eastern time
Service: 14:10 – 15:30 Eastern time

Ernie, will miss you cuz!
We had some great times in our younger years, and more meaningful times lately.
Still numb that you are not around for chats, laughs, and hugs!
We know you are there spiritually and will cherish our memories of you.
Live free!
Love, hugs, and miss you!
