In memory of
Erle Young
April 4, 1930 -
May 23, 2017
Passed away peacefully on May 23, 2017, surrounded by his wife Florence and his children.
Erle will be lovingly remembered by his wife Florence of 46 years, his children Debbie Young-Hermanns, Eric Young and Elizabeth Young (Loris Giovanatto) and his grandchildren, Christopher Hermanns (Annalease Richards), Michael Hermanns (Toni Burbidge) (with their father Hermann-Josef Hermanns), Kristina Young (Lowell Nelson), Keely Giovanatto, Myles Giovanatto and Wynn Giovanatto as well as his great grandson, Cayden Christopher Hermanns. He is also survived by family including brothers Jimmy, Sonny, Bill, Bob, Clancy, George and Lloyd, sisters Margaret and Dorothy and pre-deceased by brother Art.
Born in North Bay, Erle grew up with his large and loving family in Rouyn-Noranda. After studying at both McGill University in Montreal and Hong Kong University, he spent several years working as a chemist. In his 40s he found his true calling as a building inspector for the City of Toronto, a job he enjoyed for over 20 years. An avid handyman, Erle helped countless family members and friends renovate, fix and build.
Other passions included fishing and gardening - skills that he has lovingly and enthusiastically passed on to his grandchildren from a very young age. His grandkids remember him very fondly as a fun Goong-Goong, who helped them do all kinds of cool things that would have made their mom's hair curl.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the exceptional staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre and the Toronto Rehab Bickle Centre's Palliative Care Unit for their wonderful care and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. Goodall, Erle’s family physician for over 40 years. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in memoriam to the St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation (Toronto - http://supportstjoes.ca/donate-today/) or the Canadian Cancer Society.
