Eleanore Wong (née Chu) Born January 25, 1927, in Vancouver, British Columbia, passed away peacefully in her home at Delmanor on May 18, 2025.
Eleanore lived a life rich with adventure, accomplishments, and love. At the age of six, her family moved to Canton, China, for a brief time before returning to Vancouver.
As a young woman, Eleanore was a Chen Lee model, gracing campaigns and promoting Chen Lee cosmetics across Canada. She also carried a deep appreciation for her heritage and family legacy. Her father, Dr. Philip Chu, was the first Chinese Canadian-trained doctor to practice medicine in Canada, a source of immense pride.
Eleanore began her professional career with Baker Advertising Agency as a radio producer on the CBC, a role she cherished until she married Boe Wong and embraced her role as a devoted wife and mother. She was the proud mother of Brad and Laurie and a loving grandmother to Jillian and Melissa. Her family remembers her as a constant source of love, strength, and inspiration.
Eleanore’s talents and passions extended well beyond her family and career. She was a Life Master bridge player, showcasing her sharp mind and competitive spirit. She also had an unmatched flair for hosting unforgettable dinner parties, known for her culinary explorations and impeccable hospitality.
A world traveller, Eleanore embraced the world with open arms, exploring new places and cultures with curiosity and joy. She also shared many joyful Caribbean cruises with her husband Boe, creating cherished memories together at sea.
She had a creative spirit, expressing herself through painting and other artistic pursuits. Her artwork, often inspired by her travels and life experiences, reflected her keen eye for beauty and detail. Eleanore was also known for her impeccable sense of style, she was a classy lady, always well put together with coordinated outfits and tasteful jewellery that reflected her grace and attention to detail.
She was also the queen of navigating Toronto streets, always finding the quickest shortcuts with ease.
Eleanore was the last surviving sibling of four sisters and one brother, and her family takes solace in knowing she has reunited with them.
Eleanore touched the lives of many, and her memory will be treasured by all who knew her. Her love, wit, and wisdom will continue to inspire those who carry on her legacy.
