Ed passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 30, 2015, after a year long struggle with cancer. He was born January 8, 1950, in Hamilton, Ontario to Bertha (Ackwood) and Edward Leslie. Beloved lifelong partner, and friend of 35 years, to Mary Ann, devoted father to Sarah, Heather and Simon, father-in-law to Regan and Shawn, and adored Grandpa to Lucy, Bennett, Rowan, Logan, and Rhys. They will remember him as "bad" grandpa who enjoyed being silly, loved to give them big hugs, and who was the giver of many Kinder Eggs. Ed will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Marian and Beverly Leslie.

"Eddie" will be remembered by his friends and large extended family as a quiet, respectful, and dedicated man who showed up when you needed him. Ed enjoyed many adventures as an avid back country camper, canoeist, cross-country skier, and motorcycle racer. He had fond memories of long family car trips, building a family cottage from scratch on Georgian Bay, and traveling to many beautiful natural destinations around the globe. He was a friend to animals and he enjoyed spoiling the family Jack Russel Terrier "Nicky", as well as feeding the cottage and neighbourhood chipmunks by hand.

Ed had a brilliant and curious mind, honed with a Baccalaureate in Chemical Engineering. Ed's true love however, was the new and exciting field of computer technology. After graduation he worked for a number of companies doing tasks from data punch card entry, to developing real time systems that allowed satellites to orbit, and automated logistics systems to distribute mail, gas and oil products. In 1982 Ed started his own company and was revered as an irreplaceable software service provider for email and conferencing systems. As an owner of multiple technological devices, even in his last days, Ed remained interested, updated, and password protected.

A special thank you to the excellent staff at North York General Hospital, in particular Dr. Nina Horvath, Dr. Gina Pohani, Dr. Daryl Roitman, Archna Patel RN and Sabeen Hassan RN and numerous other nurses and staff for their exemplary care given to Ed over this last year and especially during his last days. We cannot thank the palliative care team enough for their thoughtful and tender care of Ed and his family.

In this difficult time, the family hopes you will call upon your happy memories of Ed and know that he loved you very much. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to a charity that Ed held dear; Georgian Bay Forever, Friends of Algonquin Park, or The North York General Hospital Foundation - Freeman Centre for the Advancement of Palliative Care.
