In memory of

Edward J. M. Huycke

October 30, 1926 -  November 2, 2016

Edward John Meredith Huycke, BA, LLB, QC
(October 30, 1926 – November 2, 2016)
Three days after celebrating his 90th birthday with his family, Ed died peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Ed is survived by his one true love and wife of 64 years, Margie. Dearly loved father of Janet (Jeff), Douglas (deceased), and Melissa (Brian). Loving grandfather to Doug (Sarah), Katie, Whitney, Breigh, and Ali. Proud great-grandfather to Reid. Brother of Fred (Kit), Graeme (deceased) (Kate), Rose (Boyd) and Susan.
Ed was born in Toronto, attending UTS, Trinity College School in Port Hope, the University of Toronto, and Osgoode Hall. He spent his entire legal career at Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt. Ed was a true athlete, enjoying participation in all sports. He spent his summers in Temagami and winters skiing at Osler Bluff. He loved to travel with Margie, taking trips with their friends and family all over the world, including to every Canadian province and the Canadian Arctic.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Kensington Gardens 1North, who were very loving and caring to Ed in his final 3 ½ years. Very special thanks to Bei Bei and Jenny, for treating him like family and giving their full hearts to his care.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Pleasant Funeral Centre on Sunday, November 20th from 2-5pm. A memorial service at St. Peter & St Simon’s Church of the Apostle (525 Bloor St E.) will be held on Monday, November 21st at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, a recognition of Ed’s life may be made to the Douglas Huycke scholarship bursary at Trinity College School, 55 Deblaquire St N, Port Hope, ON. L1A 9Z9.

Dear Aunt Margaret, Janet, Jeff, Melissa, Douglas, Katie, Whitney, Breigh, and Ali,

It was very sad news when Uncle Fred called on 2 November 2016 to inform me about the passing of Uncle Ed that afternoon. I am sure you are all going to miss him! When he was well I remember I really appreciated what a terrific and imaginative mind he had for making great speeches; he was very good at that. It was wonderful to see online the collection of old and new photographs of his life with family and friends. I hope all is well with all of you.
