In memory of

Edward Constantine Deratnay

May 31, 1936 -  September 30, 2016

Edward “Eddie” Deratnay

Our beloved Eddie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 30, 2016, at the age of 80. Eddie will be deeply missed by his daughter Lynn Bond (James), sons Paul (Penney) and Mark (Peggy), and his grandchildren Carolyn, David, Matthew, Sarah Ann, Aiden and Austin. He will be lovingly remembered by his adoring sisters Jackie Haddad (Sam) and Diane Deratnay, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. At 3 months Eddie came to Canada with his parents from Syria, settling in London, Ontario where he spent his earliest years. Eddie attended both Upper Canada College and the University of Western Ontario where he forged enduring friendships that lasted a lifetime. In his sporting years Eddie enjoyed playing tennis, squash, golf and cricket. When his playing days were over Eddie became his grandchildren’s number one fan, always cheering them on and supporting them in every endeavour. Eddie was an optimist with a kind word for everyone and a gentle soul who was taken too soon. You will live in our hearts forever; in loving you we are truly blessed.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Neuro Team at Sunnybrook for enabling Eddie’s safe discharge home and Gillian Carter from CCAC, the St. Elizabeth nurses and Dr. Jennifer Shapiro who ensured Eddie’s last days were peaceful and comfortable.

I am very sorry for your lose Lynn, Paul, and Mark. Your father was like a second dad to me .I remember he used to want me to read Hardy boy books.Later when the years went by I didn't get to see him that much but I will miss him. He was always soft spoken and a very kind man to know.

I was so sorry to read that your dad had passed away. I was immediately taken back to those many rides to school that he provided to Lynn and I. He always had a big smile and a kind word for everyone. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to you all.
