In memory of

Edward Chak Tong Tang

July 15, 1933 -  June 8, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Chak Tong Tang after a lengthy battle with dementia. He died under the compassionate care of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Toronto, Ontario) on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 5:52am.
Edward was born in Hong Kong on July 15, 1933. He was the youngest boy of 11 children. He attended college and worked in Hong Kong. With the financial support of his older brother, he pursued further studies in London, England. He immigrated to Canada, and initially settled in Cornwall, Ontario. Soon after, he moved to Toronto, Ontario; where he worked as a hematology laboratory technician for over twenty years at Mount Sinai Hospital, and later met his wife, Jeanie. Edward loved his family. His pride and joy was his only child, Anthony. Edward’s true enjoyment in life was witnessing Anthony’s many accomplishments, especially in academics. He was so proud when Anthony became a Dentist and subsequently an Orthodontist.
Edward lived on to see his son’s marriage to Tram, and the birth of his grandchildren, Kayley and Christian. Edward’s devotion for his family was abundantly clear, even till the bitter end. His lasting legacy was his unconditional love and sacrifice for his son, daughter-in law, and grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at York Cemetary & Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Rd. Toronto, ON for a visitation and funeral on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Uncle was there for our family from the first day we landed in Canada. He was with us for every important occasion, from when we moved into our first house to when Andrew and Eric were born. We’re deeply affected by this loss. Uncle will live on in our family’s memories.

Mum spoke of her brother Edward often and was always excited to receive his letters and Christmas cards. She has dementia and would be heartbroken to truly understand that we have lost him. She told me about helping pack his bags when he went to London to study and she was so proud of him and never stopped missing him after moving to Australia. Her tears often flowed when I was a young child. Uncle Edward was kind and wise and I have memories of visiting him, Auntie Jeanie and Anthony and my late Auntie Becky in Canada as a child. My late dad Don also had great respect for his brother-in-law. Uncle Edward is in a better place now, until we all meet again.

Dear Tang Family,
So sorry for your loss. We will miss seeing your dad hurrying to roll out the garbage and recycling bins. In his younger days, he was always puttering around in the yard.
Over the years, he only took a vacation once for a week or two. He is always working. Yes, he was very proud of Anthony. Speaking of his only son, always bring a smile to his face.
REST IN PEACE, MR TANG.
