The Otoo family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Andrew A. Otoo, who left us on February 5, 2026, at the age of 89. He was the beloved husband of the late Blossom Marjory Otoo, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Andrew was a proud father to John, Debbie, and Richard, and a loving brother to Emmanuel, Nathaniel, Theresa, Benjamin, Grace, and Ebenezer. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Andrew was predeceased by his parents, John Danoo Otoo (1989) and Lucy Millicent Otoo née Cofie (2007), as well as his brothers Samuel, David, James, Joseph, and Josiah.
Born in Accra, Ghana, on November 18, 1936, Andrew was a gifted student and an active member of his church from a young age. Known for his obedience and dedication to his studies, he pursued his dream of medicine with determination. In 1957, Andrew moved to the United Kingdom on his own to begin his medical education, earning a full scholarship to the University of Birmingham, where he graduated in 1965.
In 1966, he married Blossom, the love of his life. Together they raised John, Debbie, and Richard. By the early 1970s, Andrew had completed his residencies, and in 1975, the family immigrated to Canada, beginning a new chapter filled with opportunity and service.
Andrew dedicated over 50 years to his work as a family physician, retiring in 2019. His compassion, skill, and tireless commitment earned him the love and respect of countless patients. Andrew was a man of action and vision: he established his first medical practice near the Scarborough Bluffs and later expanded to the city’s west end, mentoring young physicians and helping them grow into skilled family doctors.
Beyond his profession, Andrew had a rich and fulfilling life. An accomplished pianist, he brought joy to his family with performances of Chopin, Schumann, and Beethoven, often filling Sunday afternoons with music. Andrew and Blossom were active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church York Mills for over 30 years, sharing their faith and service with the community.
The Otoo family sincerely thanks all those who offered calls, visits, and prayers, and extends a special note of appreciation to those traveling from afar to pay their respects. Your support during this difficult time has been a source of comfort.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, honoring Andrew’s lifelong dedication to helping others.
