In memory of

Douglas Lockrey

October 6, 1932 -  August 14, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden death of Doug Lockrey on Monday August 14, 2023. Doug was the beloved husband for 58 years of Barbara Anne (nee Chisholm) who predeceased him October 12, 2014. He was the cherished father of Susan (Maurice) and Christine (Ken) who will miss him dearly. Doug was a Grandpa to Krysta (Dave) and Martin (Anila) and Papo to Cassandra (Robert). His grandchildren were the pride of his life and each of them have their own cherished memories of time spent with "the smartest man they know"! In addition, Doug was blessed to have 4 great grandchildren - Dylan, Laila, Keira and Aubrey, who he treasured immensely!
Doug enjoyed a long career as a highschool teacher of biology at Bloor Street Collegiate and Northview Heights Secondary School when he retired in 1987. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with a variety of community groups and sharing his love of nature, birds and the world around us.
He will be remembered by many people who shared his love of nature including those in the Pickering Naturalists Club and the Durham Region Field Naturalists.
Doug was an avid reader and often had multiple books on the go. He drew something daily, and took inspiration from the world around him.
Doug became a resident of Amica in Whitby in 2015 where he had many friendships and immersed himself in daily activities. In 2020, he moved to Taunton Mills Retirement Residence in Whitby where he forged many friendships and became a beloved member of that community. Our family is extremely grateful for the support and guidance he was provided each day by the wonderful staff of Taunton Mills. He lived his life with joy and love surrounded by things he treasured most - his family, his friends and his many interests.
While he is gone, he will never be forgotten.
Dad would tell you - this has been a serendipitous life!

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
