In memory of

Douglas John Little

July 13, 1946 -  May 23, 2025

Douglas John Little, known affectionately as Doug or Papa to his grandchildren, sadly passed away on May 23, 2025, while on a cruise in the North Sea, Europe. Born on July 13, 1946, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Doug lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
Doug was a hardworking and highly organized man, whose passion for trains was a defining thread throughout his life. From building detailed model railroads in the basements of two homes to becoming an avid train watcher capturing photos and videos, his fascination with trains was well-known among family and friends. Alongside this, Doug had a lifelong love for baseball, not only enjoying the statistics and inner workings of the game but also dedicating many years as an umpire in the Streetsville/Meadowvale Baseball and Softball organization, where he was also involved in other capacities.
His professional life was rooted in the evolving world of computers and data management. Starting his career at IBM during the industry's early days, Doug went on to work for various companies before retiring from the provincial government of Ontario. Throughout his career, his commitment and expertise left a lasting impact.
Doug was a man of faith, actively involved in his church communities, including St. Francis of Assisi and Trinity Streetsville. His religious devotion was a cornerstone of his life.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Karen; their three children, David (Laura), Andrea (Tim), and Matthew; eight grandchildren—Jessica, Samantha, Isabella, Reginald, Chloe, Lockwood, Jackson, and Theodore—and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Alan (Deborah). Doug was preceded in death by his parents, John and Madeline.
Doug was beloved for his captivating stories, his remarkable patience, and his hearty, infectious laugh. Those who knew him treasured the warmth and wisdom he shared generously.
Throughout his life, Doug was known to prefer traveling by car over flying, often taking long family road trips to destinations such as Florida, Chicago, or through the Midwest. However, later in life, motivated by his deep love for his wife and family, he courageously overcame his fear of flying. This newfound bravery allowed him to accompany his loved ones on trips to South Korea, Western Canada, and Europe—demonstrating the lengths he would go to be with those he cared for most.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or The Terry Fox Foundation. These causes reflect his values and the life he lived with care, courage, and compassion.

Doug’s legacy is carried on by the love he gave and the memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.

Dear Karen, Dave, Andrea, Matt and families,

We are so sorry for your loss. Doug was truly one of kind: thoughtful, generous and sincere. It has been a few years since seeing him and you all, but I have very fond and formative memories from growing up together with Dave and having Doug as a father figure. His passions for baseball (and softball) and trains were contagious, and sparked those interests in me as well. Umpiring with Doug was always fun and educational, and being driven to the diamonds in his "crew bus" meant reviewing calls and situations on the field, and listening to the Blue Jays on the radio.

I'm glad he was able to spend quality time and help raise so many grandkids, and to see a lot of the world. He meant so much to so many, and his memory should be a blessing to all of you.

Sending our love from DC,
Tony & Tanya

We were next door neighbours in DDO, QC. Doug was already university age at that time. Best neighbours that we ever had.
My condolences to his family but I am certain that he leaves youth fond memories and guidance to the young ones to have a purpose in life and to fulfill it.
Special thoughts are included to Alan and Debbi. Doug was always the older brother to be loved and respected.

I’ll miss Doug sitting at the end of my row in church. He always had a smile for me when I gave him a wink.
