In memory of

Douglas (Doug) Dearborn

May 22, 1945 -  April 29, 2023

Doug, our beloved dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 but still too soon. Doug was born and raised in Toronto where he attended University of Toronto Schools (UTS) and University of Toronto (UofT) then went on to become a proud business owner. He was passionate about his work up until his very last day. He had a love for sports and was an elite card player who won numerous bridge and poker tournaments. He impressively earned Life Master status for his bridge play in his early 20s.

Doug will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, intelligence, generosity, sense of humour, big heart, and ability to light up a room. His energetic presence especially overjoyed his grandkids with love and excitement every minute they spent with him. To them, he was their biggest hero, best friend, and real-life teddy bear.

Predeceased by his parents: Henry & Vivian Dearborn. Doug is survived by his children: Mark (Karina) and Derek (Kerry) Dearborn; grandchildren: Emily, Tyler, Elizabeth and Jillian Dearborn; brother: Gordon (Mavis) Dearborn; sister: Dianne (Grant) King; nephews: Brian (Vanessa) and Ross King; niece: Dylanne Dearborn; as well as numerous cousins, relatives, and lifelong friends whom he truly considered family.

A drop-in memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 between 12:00pm-2:00pm at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre.

As per Doug’s wishes, flowers or donations are not necessary. Your love, memories and support are much appreciated. Even better - make plans to spend quality time with someone you love!

Everything Doug did was bigger than life right to the end. I don't recall ever beating him at a game. We changed the rules of Clue to make it harder for him to win but the result was that then he always won before anyone else even had a "clue". I gave up playing card games with him as he always seemed to know what I had in my hand and I had to look to see. It was great having someone to look up to and give brotherly advice. A lifetime of memories cut short too suddenly but lots to think about and a true reminder to enjoy life's journey while you can. Last time he and I talked was when he called to wish me a happy birthday. I'll miss wishing Doug the same on May 22. Thanks for everything Doug, even the stock tips --- I'm sure they'll pan out someday and someday we'll meet again.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Doug.
For over 30 years he has been a huge help for not only my company, Cablek, but also for me personally.
Always positive and always willing to take the time to talk about business, current events or just life in general.
I will miss him dearly and know that everyone who knew him is feeling the sadness of loosing him.
My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers.
Sincerely,
Richard Marroni

I knew Doug my entire life (literally). Some of my best memories involve him. He was an amazing person and one of the most generous people I knew. He taught me so many things, from how to do multiplication at record speeds to poker which I am forever grateful for.

You will be missed Doug. The world lost an incredible man
