Dorothy Isabel Klassen

September 3, 1922 -  June 27, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my dear mother (aka sister; as she was lovingly referred to by our friends). Predeceased by her husband Al Klassen. Dorothy's memory will be forever cherished by her daughter Heather, her 3 nephews; Charles, Brian and David; her 2 nieces Beverly and Patty and her 3 amazing caregivers; Ann, Yolly and Janet. Dorothy will be fondly remembered by all her relatives and friends as a wonderful volunteer at Womens' College Hospital and the Canadian Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 3-5 p.m. Afternoon Tea will be served at 3 p.m.; at The Old Mill Restaurant (21 Old Mill Rd., Toronto, ON.). Heather and I have been good friends for many years and although I only met Dorothy once, I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Had Dorothy not been the wonderfully vivacious and happy person that she was prior to her illness, Heather would not have become the lovely person that she is today. Dorothy will be sadly missed but will live on in Heather's memory and heart forever. Remember and dwell on the good times Heather and accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

My sincere condolences to Dorothy's family and friends. It is with great sadness I heard of her death. I have so many joyous memories of times together as volunteers at Womens College Hospital. Dorothy brought fun and laughter to every gathering whether it be the AGM, the Walk For Women's or in gift shop. Dorothy will be missed but has given us beautiful memories to cherish. I will always remember her with a smile. Thankful she was in my life. 🙏

My memory of Mrs. Klassen spans my entire lifetime. Mr. and Mrs. Klassen were dear friends of my parents, Bob and Fran Booth. I have happy memories of The Klassens coming to the cottage for a weekend each summer while I was growing up. We would wait with great anticipation for the car to drive up, the door open, and out she'd pop with the reddest hair, the brightest blue eyes, the biggest smile, the warmest hug and the loudest most infectious laugh Balsam Lake has ever heard! Each year they would launch a contest for all of us children to find the best piece of driftwood we could find, they would judge, and the winner would receive one dollar (chocolate bars were only 10 cents so that was quite a haul!) Later, after Mr. Klassen and my dad had passed away, Mrs. Klassen, Mrs. Jones and my Mom would meet every month at the Canadiana Restaurant at the Six Points Plaza for at least a 3 hour lunch. This tradition lasted for many years until my Mom was no longer able to attend for health reasons. They were the best of friends and a great source of support to each other during their later years. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Rest in peace, dear Mrs. Klassen!
