In memory of

Donna Margaret Wells

January 14, 1932 -  August 25, 2017

Loving daughter of Dorothy and Bill Wood and the granddaughter of Dora and Alex Black, all of Toronto.
Graduating in Nursing from Women’s College School of Nursing and University of Toronto, Donna worked as a Head Nurse at Hamilton General Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto and as a Nursing Teacher at Women’s College Hospital.
As a twenty- one year old, 25 weeks hosteling around Britain and Europe proved to be enhancing and formative.
Donna was instrumental in the establishment of the York Regional School of Nursing. She was an elected member of the College of Nurses of Ontario for six years and served as a president in the early ‘80s. She also served on the Canadian Dental Association Educational Committee in the same decade. She became the Dean of Health Sciences at Seneca College and was their first female Vice president for six years prior to her retirement in 1992.
From 1970 Donna served as an Elder in The Presbyterian Church in Canada through Iona Presbyterian Church, North York. She was also an active member of East Toronto Presbytery for two separate periods.
Donna was exhilarated in her employment in the ’90s as Returning Officer for the Don Valley West Riding in two consecutive Ontario Elections.
Throughout her life family and friends were a constant source of pleasure for Donna as was driving a car, politics, philosophy, traveling, teaching English as a Second Language and working on not-for- profit committees. Donna was most grateful for all the gracious and generous caring she received over the past year.
A celebration of Donna’s life will follow a Service of Thanksgiving at York Funeral Centre, at 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto (416-221-3404), on Wednesday August 30th, 2017 at 12:00 PM. Afterward join us there for lunch, coffee, tea, wine and good conversation.

Paul, Stephen and Rhonda - I was so saddened to learn of Donna's passing. I had spoken with her just a few months ago and we enjoyed reminiscing. I'm sure she is reunited with her very best friend now. I am currently in Bobcaygeon where she spent many happy days and will be thinking of her and all of you.
