In memory of

Donna Gibbes

October 27, 1938 -  May 27, 2016

Donna Isabel Gibbes (nee Merrifield) passed suddenly, but peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She is sadly missed.
Mother to Gillian & Jason (Suzanne), loving grandmother to Avery, Lily, Abby, & Emmett. Spouse of Edgar, Sister to Ross (Mary), Leslie (Kathy), and David (Anne) Merrifield in BC, beloved sister-in-law to Daisy Hart, devoted daughter to the late Isabel & Walter Merrifield, beloved aunt to Bev (Brian), Doug "Duke" (Debbie), Great Aunt, cousin, and great friend to many in Air Canada, the Toronto Public Library system, and loyal lifelong friends from her childhood home of Thunder Bay, her chosen home of Toronto, and a tight-knit group from Jamaica.
Donna was a voracious reader, loved to ski, swim, play piano, & golf, and had a lifelong passion for travel.
Her friends and family loved her cooking and baking, remember her for her no-nonsense approach to life, and many report how she has changed their lives. She was always out helping someone with their finances, or organizing their home, or just going out for a walk...many, many times through Edwards Gardens.
In her travels she would always be found by a friendly stray dog or cat, who wanted to hang with her.
Going through thousands of photos, it truly was a life well-lived! How did she fit it all in?
*please keep revisiting this site, as it runs for 6 weeks, and She had so much about her to share, and PLEASE SHARE YOUR STORIES about Donna in the online guestbook!
In lieu of flowers, her family feels Donna would appreciate donations to the Toronto Public Library, Dreams Take Flight, or to spend your money traveling the world, with her wanderlust in mind.
Thank you each, for being in her world

Channel #5 ...that smell from before I could talk....still reminds me of you to this day. I haven't seen you in a long time but I can hear you laugh and you always made me feel happy and so welcomed as soon as I saw your face. You had that presence that I will never forget. Love you always!

I met Donna many years ago when I resided in Toronto, through her husband, Edgar Gibbes who is a dear, long-time, friend. Donna was a kind, thoughtful, and honest person (a straight shooter). She was a shining star who cared about people and reached out to many who needed advice and/or help in different situations.

The absence of a loved one takes courage and strength to overcome and she will be sadly missed not only by her family but by all whose lives she touched. Rest in Peace, Donna.

Donna was the best of friends and the hardest worker in a team. She gave so generously of her time and friendship to her co-workers as well as anyone in need of help... always taking care of someone with a problem.

Donna loved to read and kept us all up to date with the latest books on the market.

I worked with Donna at air Canada as a crew member working many long hauls and a few layovers. We enjoyed the camaraderie as Donna`s good sense of humour kept the problems to a minimum.

She was a gentle, kind person and will be greatly missed.
