In memory of

Donald Robert Sommerville

September 14, 1936 -  March 29, 2023

Donald Robert Sommerville 86 of Aurora On, passed away on March 29th after a battle with cancer.
Don was born in Toronto on September 14, 1936, to Thomas and Alice Somerville.
Don became an electrician in his late teens and eventually rose through the ranks of the Scarboro board of education to be Supervisor of Plant. He was the only person to ever hold this position that was not an engineer.
He met the love of his life as a teenager, Francis LeGier, and they were married in 1957. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage right up until Franny’s passing in 1998. Together they had two sons, Robert and Scott. Don’s priority was always Family first. He taught us to be independent and be proud of who we were.
From spring to fall Don’s weekends were spent at the cottage with family. He loved nothing more than morning projects and afternoon activities with the grandkids. In the winter months curling with his buddies kept him busy.
Don was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Alice. He is survived by his sons Robert (Debbie) and Scott (Suzanne), and his grandchildren Elyse, Grant and Madison and great grandchild Max.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the MS Society or Southlake Regional Health Centre. There is a memorial service at the Elgin Mills Funeral Center, 1591 Elgin Mille Rd east Richmond Hill on April 8th with reception at 4pm and funeral to follow.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of Uncle Don. He was always so happy and laughing and fun!

He will be missed. On the bright side, he is now reunited with all that have gone before him especially Aunt Francis.

I met Don and Fran when I was 15 years old and dating Paul Beattie, a young football player Don was coaching called East York Argos. We raised our families together through wonderful fun years.
Don and I stayed connected after we lost Francis. I have great memories to comfort me. 🫂 hugs Sandy

So sorry to read of Don’s passing. He was a great man who was always upbeat and positive and always encouraging people to do their best at whatever it was they were doing. He will be missed by all that had the privilege to meet him. Deepest regards to the family. Dale

So sad to hear about Poppa's passing this week. We have so many memories over the decades of summers at the lake. Hours spent on the dock enjoying the warm setting sun, drinking cold Molson Exports or raiding the treat box during a game of cards. There's something special about cottage neighbours who become beloved friends, family even. I know we won't truly feel the impact of your loss until we head North again, but we will always keep your memory alive and keep you close in our hearts. I'm so glad you got to meet our girls - we'll make sure they know how special you were to all of us. Give Foxy a cuddle from us and say hello to Charlie and Riley while you're up there. xx - all our love, Garrett, Vicki, Elle & Cora.
