In memory of

Dona Marie Mahony

August 20, 1929 -  January 5, 2024

Dona died peacefully with family by her side on January 5, 2024, at the age of 94.

Dona was born on Aug 20, 1929, to her parents Harvey and Pearl Hillman in Tilbury, Ontario. She moved to Chatham, Ontario to complete Business College to learn skills that gained her employment in London. It was where she met her future husband Ralph Benson Mahony.

The two built their family in the new community of Don Mills in 1953 and remained there until their late 80’s. As a homemaker Dona volunteered for the Donway United Church as a Sunday school teacher and in her daughter's Brownie pack and Girl Guide company.

Dona built a career working for Burke Marketing Research as the Office Manager where she made many lifelong friends. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with Ralph and many friends and family, golfing and playing bridge and of course, creating many memories with her grandchildren.

She is now reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, Ralph, and with her late sister Wilda (Harold) as well as her brothers-in-law Late Eric (Audrey) and Late Graeme (Late Denise).

Cherished by her dear children Susan (Late Don), John (MaryAnne), Bruce (Lisa). Proud Grandmother to Lindsay (Mark), Laura (Josh), Sarah (Jeff), Ben (Ashley), Elyse (John), Connor (Christian) and Great Grandmother (GG) to Charlotte, James, Jake, Hudson, Austin, William, Maddison and Luke and many nieces and nephews.

She will be held dear in the hearts of her family, relatives, and many friends. Special thank you to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Hospital and Toronto Grace Hospital for their caring support.

A Limerick in honour of Dona Mahony…

There once was a mother of three,
Baby Bruce, John, Susan Marie
With husband Ralph at the head
In a brick house that was RED
Alongside a stunning birch tree.

They all lived in a place called Don Mills
Where she offered some help just for thrills
North York General was new
In hospital smocks that were blue
Cheering patients, giving water refills.

At Donway United she taught
Sunday school, kids were learning a lot
Helped the Brownie pack next,
Teaching different subjects
“Snowy Owl” no one ever forgot

Then she moved on to assist with Girl Guides,
Program planning, badge testing, guides thrived.
She planned bridal showers galore,
Which were never a bore
To honour many a Broadleaf Street bride!

Our Dona valued a house neat and clean,
She instilled the worth of good hygiene
Not a crumb you would find
But please bear in mind
A Good housewife? Yes! She was the queen!

Now her grandchildren were often her pride
We played cribbage and cards by her side
She was fast with the math
You did not want her wrath
Skunk her? You could not if you tried!

Lindsay, Laura, Sarah from Sue
Ben, Elyse and there’s Connor too
With each special bond
Her love will go on
Let her memory never fall through

Charlotte, James, Hudson and Jake,
Were the first to make grandma a great
William, Austin make six
Maddy, Luke in the mix
The blood lines increased, Now there’s eight

What a wonderful life you did make
Your pain and suffering can now take a break
We’ll try not to stay blue
When we all think of you
What a legacy you’ve left in your wake

xo we love you! From Susan, Lindsay, Laura and Sarah
