My deepest condolences to Mrs Hiel, Digna, Jelle, Sylvia and family with the sudden death of Mr Hiel. The years I have known Mr. Hiel have been a real blessing for me. Soon after I met Mr and Mrs Hiel they became good friends. Mr Hiel was very supportive and was always interested in what was going on in my life and the world. I loved spending time with him and Mrs Hiel and really treasured our coffee/hot chocolate times. He was a real inspiration to me to never give up even when things were not easy. I feel so grateful for all the years I have known him. It has been such a privilege being part of his life and I feel somewhat part of his family. He was very special to me and I will miss him dearly.
Much love, Margriet
Dearest family,
So sad that Dolf is no longer with us. Gecondoleerd met dit verlies.
Veel liefs natuurlijk voor Corretje.
Ik bel haar nog.
Love and I will think of you on the day,
Wies
I was touched when I received the news of the death of my father's brother, Dolf Hiel.
I remember me so well that my father was very proud of his brother. We wish Corretje, Jelle, Digna and Sylvia and all your children all the best!
Big hug, Sjoerd & Anca
I will remember Dolf as a generous and not always easy man with much character. His family took me in for a year after I moved to Toronto in 1967. They flew the Dutch flag when I arrived. I will always be grateful.
I saw Dolf and Corretje late last year. I am glad I did. Dolf was miserable that he could not do anything himself, but his wicked sense of humour remained intact. Sylvia joined us.
Dolf's brother Bob was my father. They were fond of each other. Decades of monthly letters and shipments of cigars were the result. I wish we had kept this correspondence.
Almost fifty years have gone by and now Dolf is gone, and with him the last connection with my father. A special man has left us after a life well-lived.
