In memory of

Djordje Mesarovic

September 10, 1933 -  December 4, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Djordje Mesarović on December 4, 2019 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, aged 86 years. As a young man, he survived the Second World War; relentlessly passionate and resilient, he went on to study architecture, achieving a doctorate from the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, and becoming a tenured professor back home at the University of Sarajevo. A lifelong learner and teacher, he adored good brandy, good wine, and good seafood. A proud Canadian, he arrived in Toronto in 1996 and made the city home. A dedicated man with an enormous heart, he always had a story to tell and love to give. A tireless scholar, he could always be found with a physics book and a four-dimensional cube in his hands, explaining the nature of the universe to those who took the time to listen. One of his books is in the Library of Congress among other prestigious libraries, and we are so, so very proud of him. He loved immeasurably his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, and will always be remembered as a family man who never stopped ensuring the happiness and well-being of others.

Professor Mesarovic was my perfection in 83-83 and mentor in 1989. I loved him and respected him. Loved his sence of humor and admired his knowledge. I'm so sad that since my graduation I never crossed path with him again. To hear that he's passed away is devastating news. Rest in peace dear Djoko, dear Mesar. Few were as good as you were.
