Dennis (Dionysios) Christakis was born on December 12, 1927. From the beginning, Dennis was surrounded by the warmth of his parents and 9 siblings in southern Greece not too far from Megalopolis. Dennis, a hearty, healthy person also had a pleasant, peaceful disposition. He was raised in an environment of love, steeped in the Greek Orthodox traditions with a deep love of family. Dennis entered the Army of Greece at age 18 and quickly rose to the rank of sergeant training his regiment solders in the specialty of explosive mine deployment (narkes). These experiences took Dennis to areas of Greece he had not seen before such as Thessaloniki, Castoria, Loutraki, and Nafplio. This expanded his horizons tremendously in his beloved country of Greece. Following World War II he immigrated and met the love of his life Katina Eliopoulos in Canada who particularly enjoyed taking exemplary care of Dennis and their family. They raised two lovely children Georgina (Gina) married to Jim with Sparky their dog that Dennis loved, and Theodora (Dora) married to John. Dennis especially enjoyed the company of his grandson John Dean. He felt blessed to have his many family members join him in Canada with all their children, and was a true believer in the value of a higher education. Dennis enjoyed travelling with his family to the lakes of Ontario, Florida and Las Vegas. He often said he had been genuinely privileged to have lived such a long and truly fruitful life with all his family. Dennis will always be remembered for his kind, gentle personality truly filled with love for everyone. May his memory be eternal as his sits enlightened by the right hand of God.
Memorial donations to the Sunnybrook Foundation - Holland Bone Program would be a fitting tribute for the wonderful care Dennis received from the staff at Sunnybrook Holland Hospital at 43 Wellesley Street East. Please see link to the charity under Donations in the toolbar above.
