In memory of

Dimitri "Jim" Kalogris

February 3, 1966 -  September 9, 2025

Dimitri (Jim) Kalogris, age 59, passed away on September 9, 2025. Born on February 3, 1966, in Toronto, Ontario, to Sophia and George Kalogris, Jim grew up in Scarborough, where his big heart and unforgettable sense of humor first began to shine.

Jim spent over 40 years in the restaurant industry, starting at his family-owned burger restaurant before running Dynamic Catering Company and later creating a warm, welcoming space at Maria’s Corner Café. In the last chapter of his working life, Jim found joy as a school caretaker, where his kindness and laughter touched the lives of countless staff and students. After just seven years of service, he was honored with the Caretaker of the Year Award—a recognition of the dedication, humility, and genuine love he put into everything he did.

Beyond his work, Jim’s passions were many. He was a true car enthusiast who could name the make and model of any vehicle, a music lover, and a man who cherished comedy in all its forms. He had a natural curiosity that gave him knowledge across a wide range of topics and a unique ability to connect with anyone—often in their own language, if only to make them laugh. His humor, his storytelling, and his endless stream of jokes, Facebook posts, and Instagram memes filled every room—and every heart—with joy.

Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Maria; his siblings, Mother Nectaria, Panagiota, and Tom; his adoring nieces Athena and Andonia and nephews George and Samuel; and his beloved fur baby, Oliver. He was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Sophia and George.

Those who knew Jim will remember him as selfless, caring, considerate, and humble—a man with a heart of gold who made everyone around him feel seen, valued, and uplifted. He was a rare soul who brought light and laughter everywhere he went. He will be missed more than words can say, and his absence leaves a space that can never be filled.

Jim was truly one in a million. To know him was to be blessed by his kindness, his humor, and his love. His memory will forever live on in the stories he told, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched.

May his soul rest in peace. Dimitri was an amazing human being. He was loved by everyone. Every time he would see me he used to say is it Friday yet Fariya and I would laugh and say soon Dimitri. I will cherish his smile and all his jokes in my heart till I am alive.

I feel so lucky to have spent the past three years working alongside Dimitri. He had the most incredible work ethic, but what stood out even more was the way he connected with staff and students, making everyone feel so valued and cared for. He loved having music playing while he worked, and it was impossible not to smile when he was around with his jokes, positivity, and sense of humour. The way he spoke about Maria was filled with such pure love and warmth. Dimitri was truly the best of the best, one of a kind, and I’m going to miss him terribly. The world feels a little less bright without him. Sending love to Maria and his family.

Jim was the best brother-in-law anyone could ask for. He treated my children — Athena, Samuel, and Andonia — as if they were his very own, and for that I will always be grateful. We shared so many beautiful memories together, yet it still feels like there was never enough time.

He was truly an extraordinary human being with a heart of gold. Our home will forever be filled with the echo of his laughter and the love he so generously gave. He will be missed beyond words but remembered with endless gratitude and affection.
