In memory of

Dick Spiering

December 31, 1955 -  October 17, 2024

We’d like to share the sad news that Dick passed away peacefully after a short illness at Brampton Civic Hospital in the early hours of October 17.

He will be fondly remembered by Jane, his wife of 41 years, his son David and daughter-in-law Lisa Silva. He leaves behind siblings Ari (Bev), Bill, Connie (George), their families, and his many friends.

He was born in St. Thomas, Ontario to parents Cornelia and Willem Spiering, then spent his formative years in Brampton and Streetsville. Proud of his Dutch heritage, he loved to cook dishes handed down from his mother, like delicious croquette and brown bean soup. In addition, his friends will greatly miss his spicy chicken wings and his awesome “Dick’s pickles”.

Dick loved dogs, playing bridge, his TV remote, his rocking chair, bashing the Maple Leafs, barbecuing and entertaining. He was also an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed bass fishing at Shadow Lake in the Kawarthas, spending many fun-filled weekends camping in the area with good friends.

If you wish to make a donation in Dick’s memory, the family would appreciate a gift to the Salvation Army, or to the charity of your choice.

It will be very strange and sad not to see Dick at our gatherings. I will personally miss his teasing and his stuffed mushrooms!!
You chose a beautiful picture to remember him by, it’s just like seeing him sitting there in his rocking chair.
We will remember you fondly Dick.

Dick has been a fixture in my life for over 50 yrs. In the early days there was bowling, horseshoes, euchre and fishing. Many moments stand out but we always had a laugh and a great time. As part of the Lottzanuttza group he was always up for making our plays, skits and antics more fun. He could remember our crazy history better than any of us and often regaled us with stories of days gone by. I can't believe he's gone. It won't be the same without him. You will be greatly missed , my friend. Huge condolences to Jane, David, Lisa and Dick's family. Hugs to you all.
