In memory of

Despina Dianna Ioannou

March 25, 1935 -  March 24, 2023

It is with profound sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Despina Dianna Ioannou, Friday March 24, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, after a sudden, brief illness.
She was born March 25, 1935 to Zoi and Anastasios Gastis, in Florina, Greece; sister to Chrysanthe Zolis (predeceased), Ted Gastis (Aliki Gastis), and Peter Gastis (predeceased). She married the love of her life, Louis Ioannou in Toronto in 1955 and was the proudest mother of three children, Rita Giugias (Nicholas), Tom (Patricia Jarosz), and Stephanie Kane (Barry Stringer).
Dianna was the sweetest, best, funniest, happiest Yiayia to her two grandchildren, Zachary and Alexandra Giugias. She was Thietsa Despina to many loving nieces and nephews who she adored and loved spending time with.
Together Dianna and Louis worked very hard and created a beautiful life for their family. They owned several restaurant establishments, but her fondest memories and happiest days were in their Humbertown Restaurant and Banquet Hall where the whole family worked many long hours. They travelled constantly in their retirement and held hands up to the moment her beloved husband passed away.
Dianna was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, always smiling, never complaining, invariably positive, and the hardest working person you could ever meet. Her life was her family, she was devoted and proud up until her last breath.

Dear Rita and family, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved Mom. Although I was only in her company a handful of times, I recall how classy and beautiful she was. May you find peace in your heart knowing that the joy and love she brought to you and your family, was also felt amongst all that came in contact with her. Take care of each other, Fondly Kelly Young
