Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Derick was raised in a typically loving Newfie family. Derick had a love for adventure and went west at the age of 17. He settled in Toronto, got at job at a company in the TD centre on the 44th floor and he started his career at Canadian Facts. After 41 years at CF or TNS, Derick retired as a vice president who was respected and loved by his friends & colleagues at the company and did this with no post secondary education; he was proud of the accomplishments of his colleagues and their families.
Derick enjoyed people and he loved to talk. Generous, kind, compassionate, understanding are just a few words to describe him. He will be remembered for the Christmas dinners when he cooked for more than 20 family members. He loved watching his nieces & nephews grow up to be strong adults.
Derick and Glenn enjoyed a wonderful life of travel, great dinner parties, and with lots of laughs and tears with our amigos. Derick loved going to the theatre, TFC soccer games, and bridge. He loved bragging about his bridge accomplishments. Friends abound from Canada coast to coast and in la Penita de Jaltemba, Mexico where Derick and Glenn built a beautiful home.
He made friends in every bar and he sends a big cheers to you. Please raise a toast to a much loved gentleman.
Derick left us surrounded by love. A future celebration will be planned in his honour.
