In memory of
Demetrios Kakaletris
July 11, 1937 -
September 18, 2025
Peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Demetrios “Mitso” Kakaletris passed away at the age of 88 at the Hellenic Home for the Aged. The youngest of his family, Demetrios was born in 1937 in the mountain village of Barsenikos, near Mystras, Greece. After completing his military service, Demetrios married in Eleni “Helen” Lambrinos in 1961.
Demetrios, Eleni and their son Panagiotis immigrated to Canada in 1966 to join his brothers Stavros and Giorgios and their families. The three families shared a house in Toronto while they worked to get settled in their new country. In the years that followed, they welcomed a daughter, Tasia, and a son, Apostolis. For many years, he worked at the Don Valley Brick Works, saving enough money to purchase a home for the family. In retirement, Demetrios was an avid gardener and would return to Mystras every summer to spend time with family and friends.
Demetrios is survived by his wife Eleni (née Lambrinos), daughter Tasia Guitard (Keith), sons Panagiotis (Kathryn Mills) and Apostolis of Toronto, brothers Stavros (Eleni) of Richmond Hill and Giorgios (Maria) of Toronto and sister Stavroula Bekelis (late Nikos) of Trapizondi, Greece and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Canada and in Greece. Predeceased by his sister Eleni Spirdakos (late Demetrios) of Pikoulanika, Greece.
A heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional and compassionate care he received from the nursing and support staff of the Hellenic Home for the Aged in Scarborough.
~ May his memory be eternal ~
