Dave (David) Thomas Jones
March 3, 1966 to February 15, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dave (David) Thomas Jones, a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, colleague, and respected member of the community. Dave left us on February 15, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dave was born in Wales and spent his formative years traversing the United Kingdom, including Ireland, Scotland, and England, before settling in Nottingham during his adulthood. His insatiable curiosity and love for mathematics and science were evident from a young age, which led him to pursue studies in mathematics and chemistry at the esteemed University of Cambridge.

Throughout his professional journey, Dave's passion for technology and his exceptional skills in computer programming were evident. From weaving lace with lace loom punch cards working his way up to managing and overseeing multibillion-dollar systems in leading banks, Dave's expertise and dedication were unparalleled. He was a pillar of strength and knowledge within his workplace, notably with his CIBC family, where his commitment to business continuity services was unwavering.

Dave's work family at CIBC, including Juan, Matt, Jason, Daniel, Kevin, Winson, Semona, Sonia and many others, held a special place in his heart. Beyond colleagues, they were his confidants, his collaborators, and his second family. Together, they shared innumerable challenges, triumphs, and moments of camaraderie, forging bonds that transcended the confines of the workplace.

Outside of his professional endeavours, Dave was a man of many passions. He was an avid supporter of various sports teams, including the Chicago Cubs, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Magallanes baseball team, Nottingham Forest Football Club, the Newcastle Football Club, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Dave's impact extended far beyond his professional and personal pursuits. He was a compassionate advocate for the underprivileged and a steadfast supporter of those in need. His infectious enthusiasm, unwavering spirit, and boundless generosity touched the lives of all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
Dave leaves behind his loving wife, Nancy, his devoted parents-in-law, Maria Elvira Tavares and Jose Francisco Tavares, and his beloved sister, Kate Douglas. He also leaves behind his cherished niece and nephews, Joshua, Olivia, Jonah, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Patricia (Pedro) Pereira, Kelly Tavares, and aunt Patricia Dewar. His corgi, Pumpkin, will miss him dearly too.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada or initiatives supporting youth education are encouraged, reflecting Dave's lifelong commitment to giving back to his community.
A private graveside memorial service to honour Dave's life will be held later this month for his close friends and family.

Dave was a mentor, a friend and a work-family member. He will continue to live in my heart and guide me through life's challenges. Dave was someone with whom I could have a heated argument one minute and reconvene 5 minutes later as best friends. He was my mentor and I've spoken to him more often than my biological brother. Dave was a human Wikipedia and there was rarely a topic he did not know of, on the rare occasion he would research for a bit and return as an expert on the subject. Dave was a role model, mentor and best friend, he will be missed dearly.
