March 23, 2024
It is with profound sorrow that we share the unexpected passing of David Thomas Culliford on Saturday, March 23rd, at the age of 77. In his final moments, David was comforted by the loving presence of his wife, Sheila, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, and Adam, his son and best friend.
Born in Toronto on January 18th, 1947, to the late Howard and Ruth Culliford, David's life was one of profound connections and accomplishments. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sheila (nee Geller), his son, Adam (and partner Kaidy Newman), his treasured grandson, Hayden, and his brother, Paul. David's kindness and generosity also left an indelible mark on his wider circle of relatives in Kingston, Simcoe, Toronto, and Scotland, endearing him as a cherished brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin.
After graduating with a degree in science from the University of Toronto, he went on to study electrical engineering at Carleton University, which led to a rewarding career as a telecommunications engineer with Ontario Hydro. Upon retiring, he embraced the beauty of nature, enjoying hikes in Collingwood with Sheila, exhilarating bike rides at Three Stage with Adam, windsurfing trips to Hatteras with dear friends, and imparting his love for skiing to his grandson, Hayden.
An avid sports enthusiast, David's athleticism was evident in his love for skiing, snowboarding, curling, windsurfing, pickleball, badminton, and mountain biking. His zest for life and insatiable curiosity kept him active and engaged to the very end. David's preference for a good book over television reflected his unending quest for knowledge and understanding.
David’s enduring legacy is the wisdom he shared and the numerous lives he enriched through his fearless embrace of life, his deep love for his family, and his limitless curiosity. Though his sudden passing leaves a profound emptiness in our hearts, the memories he created will forever inspire us to seek out life's adventures and continually pursue the quest for knowledge.
David also demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing the lives of others through his volunteer work with Track 3, an adaptive skiing program. He generously contributed his time and expertise, enabling individuals with disabilities to experience the joy and freedom of outdoor sports. In tribute to David's memory and his dedication to others, memorial donations can be made to Track 3, ensuring the continuation of the work David so ardently supported, helping others discover their abilities and enjoy the great outdoors.
